I don't have any rusted paint chips yet, but I have a couple of big paint bubbles on the side of my door sills, same spot each side -weird- and asked dealership about it. They are looking into what Toyota will do, they will let me know soon. So it is worth asking about, they may try to take care of you since it is so new. Can't hurt to ask IMO.

Your best bet would be to take it in sooner then later. I had a 2007 Tundra that had paint issues. Everytime I washed it my rags would turn white which was the color of the truck. I called corporate and got a case number and was advised to take to dealer to see if it was factory defect or lack of me not taking care of paint. How they determined that no idea but at the end of the day and with no more warranty on the truck my dealer offered to cover half the cost to repaint the truck. Not what I was expecting but better then nothing so it honestly doesn't hurt to try but I would call corporate first if I were you. Good luck.

Had some chips in my paint the 3rd day I drove back home. All from road debris from vehicles and construction in front of me. Bought Toyota touch up paint, touched up chips then applied sealant and wax to the truck no one can tell where it had chips.

I'd address it now if you can.

ETA: White is the worst color Toyota uses. I think they shoot it all in one shot? Or something like that I've read. My second gen white paint basically started to flake off pretty early. Just didn't seem to hold up in the Florida sun. After that I swore I'd never buy another white yota.

I agree Toyota does very cheap job with white paint. From what I figured out is that they used a 2 in 1 wet style paint on the 2nd gen Tundras which is complete garbage. One of the reasons why I traded in my Tundra.

I swear I remember hearing something about its a thin coat of paint and no clear coat on certain colors to help save production time.

Update on what is going on, dealership is coming to my house to pick it up because they are an hour away and they're providing me a rental car for the day. They will either have it fixed or will have toyota fix it.

I traded in my white 2007 Tacoma for my new silver one. The "old one" had 137,000 miles on it. I would have taken a white one in a heart beat.

This forum's a funny place. Cheap paint? Rocks don't chip paint? Where do you guys come up with this stuff?

The first thing you need to buy with any new rig is some touch-up paint. Now this rusty spot on the roof? That's a mystery but I'm glad to hear the dealer is jumping on it.

Let me know how it works out, wanting to get a 2017 white TRD myself. Wasn't sure if '17's were still having all the issues 16's were or just a few still.

    That's a great resolution!

Years ago we saw an issue with something called "Rail Dust" with cars being transported via train and they would show up at the dealer with small dark rust colored specs all over the top segments, hood roof and deck lid. That's when Honda really started to cover them with that clear or white type sealant. It's all peeled off the vehicles when they are PDI'd. But it cured the issue until a cheaper way if transporting vehicles enclosed was found.

Toyota picked up my truck and dropped off a rental car for the day. They had their paint guy fix it. They also dropp off my truck at home, picked up the rental car, filled up my truck with gas (it was probably around 1/4 tank when they picked it up, washed my trunk in and out, and gave me a free bottle of touch up paint. All at Earnhardt Toyota, I will probably always buy a truck there after all the things they have done for me.
