Installing a Radar Detector

I just ordered the new Cobra XRS9440 12-BAND RADAR/LASER DETECTOR WITH VOICE ALERT. It seems to be a good system, but i have one problem with it. The power cord hanging from the system(mounted on the window) all the way down to the plug in. With the cord hanging there it interferes with my drink holders and air condition switches. I thought about putting it in the corner of the drivers side, and having the cord go under the steering wheel but i wasn't sure how that would work. Does anybody have any suggestions on another place i could put the radar detector? Or can you tell me away to hide the cord so it does not interfere??? Oh and the cord is coiled, not straight!!!

 

I got a V1, and a friend of mine suggested that I mount it right under the mirror and run the cord up to tap into the temp/compas power source. Not sure if that is possible, but if it is then that is likely what I will be doing.

 

I heard that is not a good place to put it! Picks up a lot more interference and a lot less radars!!! As for putting the wire there, its not possible for me, I have a 96 taco! SO no stuff with the mirror.

 

I have a V1 as well and have it mounted to the left of the rear-view mirror up against the headliner. I wired it into ceiling console for power only when the truck is on. I have an auto-dimming mirror so it was easy to find switched power, but I'm sure it can be done with just the temp/compass.

From what it said in the V1's manual and from what I've read online the higher you mount the radar detector the better. It's really just an antenna... the higher it is the better the reception. Having it mounted at the top allows a direct view out the rear windows for the rear-facing receiver too. Additionally, when it's at the top of the window it's very inconspicuous and barely noticeable from the outside.
