I have a 2008 Tacoma with JBL. The stereo is stock aside from a Kicker sub hooked up through the factory HU using a line out converter. Wanting to add this HU and keep it as plug and play as possible, what all am I going to need?

I know most everything is already put back together, but can you help identify where/which harness is behind the glove box? I'd rather splice the wires after the connectors under the steerwheel. (is the reverse single red wire there too?)

    Thanks

post # 175. That is the exact wire I tapped into. Sorry I don't have a picture of mine, but this should work. This worked perfect on my 2014 DCSB, not sure if yours is the same tho.

Not sure where else the wire is, but I also believe that its under the fuse / kick panel. I searched and also found it under the same post, but it was #99.

It's pretty easy and so far works like factory did.

Subbing the hell out of this. The Entune system and nav is such crap.

How is light dimming on this unit? Can it me made to dim automatically with the OEM dash dimmer switch, or are there other easily accessible options that aren't 6 menus deep?

that's good question, but honestly, I don't know. I just got back from a 1300 mile round trip, from Md to Ga, and the Nav was great, day and night. I didn't think to try to see if it dims or not with the dash light switch. didn't really need to because the Nav at night is night-mode and didn't bother my eyes and during the day it was plenty bright. there are some menu options in the settings, but I left mine default and it works well for me. maybe someone else can chime in.

Thanks. I think it might be a little different, as I have a third plug that goes into the back of the head unit that I can't figure out what it's for, since everything else works fine.

The head unit has a dimming function that will lower brightness when the lights come on. They'll return when the lights are off. You can also adjust manually from a little drop down menu it has on the top bar at all times. Third option is programming one of the face buttons.

which HU do you have? for the backup camera, mine just needed to have the RCA input connected and the cable labeled "back" connected to the red wire behind the glove box.

Yea, but my truck didn't come equipped initially with a backupcamera (base model with basic stero). I've read and confirmed all the wiring is there up to the kickplate. Gonna check later if I find an rca cable behind the glove or something.

    Is this one btw: https://www.carjoying.com/android-5...-support-mirror-link-wifi-obd2-bluetooth.html

    Awesome. Thanks.

Based on the HU links in the "Products Discussed," is this applicable to the JY-UQ128 or the JY-UQ124 or both?

I can't say which models, but from the research I did, almost all of them come with the illumination function. Being the lights come on and the brightness goes to it's lowest level.

Although, I remember checking the dimmer rolling wheel and it didn't control, but that was before I set up everything.

OK, thanks. I'll need to research. The Amazon links were not strong on details, and the 128 had zero details.

But I've been telling my wife I just want a HU that is like my phone. Bingo.

Update on dimming, it's not really reliable. Sometimes the unit starts up full brightness in the morning, sometimes it doesnt. It does consistently dim on lights on though.

I'm not much of an audio guy in the vehicle I work far too much to really have any time to enjoy music. I need a good navigation system and I need hands free talk ability. I have an aunlimited data plan on my phone for buiness so Wifi sync to my phone should solve most everything for me.

I went form a Jeep Commander that I used a lot of business to a Taco. The ability to make and have phone calls over Bluetooth while driving is something I must have. This 2006 truck has the base head unit and I need to do something within the next few weeks to get it sorted.

Can anyone comment how well these "joying" units work for hands free?

2nd Gen Tacos are not exactly the quietest out their either.

I'm going to be honest, I've had mine for several weeks now and it's not too impressive. I find it to be really buggy. One minute everything works, the next time I restart some things don't work. Last week, the volume knob didn't work, but the steering wheel control volume did. A day later it was all fine. On several occasions my backup camera doesn't come on. If put it back in Park, then in Reverse again, it will then come on. My PowerAmp app works about 75% of the time - meaning it works, but the interaction with my HU is buggy. I do find that the Nav is pretty reliable, so far anyways. As far as making calls via the HU and Bluetooth, haven't done enough to make a sound judgement. If you must have that feature, and it must be reliable, I would probably look elsewhere honestly. For the $250 that I have in it, it's fine, but it's not my DD either. If you are into your music, the sound from the HU is not real good, you need to have good speakers and possibly a good amp. PowerAmp does sound good I will give them that, but if you listen to any other music app the sound is not great. If I had to do it all over again, I would save up a little more and buy something better. I'm not unhappy with it because of the cost, but knowing what I know now, I would probably look elsewhere.

So, reading thru this thread and looking at the Joying products on Amazon I see they have an Android 5.1.1 out now, with quad core Atom and 2GB ram for $300 so I suppose that is the one I would go with.

I have a '17 Off-Road manual trans with Entune but not the JBL premium unit.

I have a few questions that I would like someone to help me shortcut to the answer ...

    - Where do I get a harness that will allow me to plug and play? I would like to cut zero wires if at all possible and retain the backup camera, USB, steering controls, etc. because I want an easy undo if 6mos down the road I want to sell/trade.

    - Will I break any functionality in the cluster info screen? Like the fuel economy widgets? I expect the info screen that shows the channel and nav status to not show anything... but will it just be blank or will it 'eff up the whole cluster thing is where I'm going here.

    - Can I hook the USB in the center console and dash up to the new unit or do I lose them?
There are dozens of dash kits on Amazon/ebay and they all look the same. Is one better than the other?

    Bonus question:
    - Has anyone tried wiping one of these and installing ASOP with Android Car?

My whole goal here is to be able to run Waze and OSMAnd+ for nav, use my own music player, google voice search, Carista and Torque for bit fiddling and OBDII integration and retain everything else - ESPECIALLY really crisp BT in-car calling with factory mic/speakers because that is the one thing I need for work.

That's the one I have ordered. I'm waiting to install it until other parts come in.

You'll need to order through the Joying Website.

As of right now, they're done with the Chinese New Year... although it seems like the way they're sending the harness is taking FOR-EVER ... I ordered it at the end of January and it's still not in hand.

The website says 12-28 days in transit from China.

What are you doing about the installation? Do you have a faceplate kit or some way to use the factory part in mind? I am not keen on replacing nice plastic with cheap plastic so retaining the whole Toyota fascia would be preferable.
