I had read about this on the 2016's and the TSB that fixed it. I noticed a couple of times last week where it felt like it did it but tonight confirmed it. The temps have gone down a bit here in MA and started it up went in reverse a few seconds later and it went fine, shifted to drive and it just sort of glided forward a little and then it kind of slammed into D.

So far in my first two weeks I have....

    - Ordered and installed the 6 rubber plugs which cured the howl.
    - Have separation and slight hood flutter with a couple of middle spots broken apart. I am going to repair them myself with 3M NVH since it's minor and 3M says you do not have to remove the old adhesive. *One note also the theory of old adhesive is possible but I have found this issue with other companies and they all state it's from not using enough in the spot which I personally think is more likely the case.
    - 2 of the 4 wheel locks installed from the factory were totally loose
    - I guess I have the delayed shifting, I hope that's all it is and the TSB fixes is since it's not something I want to live with.

I love the truck so I hope these each just get solved.

So for those hoping a 2017 is bug free, not for me. At least I can power open my back window though to stay positive :)

    Hey Chris,
I also have a 2017 and thought I had a delayed shifting over the past few weeks. Well today also confirmed it for me. I was driving my truck early morning and I shifted from park to drive. I was pushing the gas pedal but didn't go anywhere. It took about 2-3 seconds for it to finally engage in drive. I'm also disappointed. I'm going to be heading to the dealer on Tuesday to show them the rear howl on mine. I'm gonna bring up the delayed shift as well.

Hopefully we both get fixed up!

The TSB that everyone talks about for 2016 is TSB 0077-16

The good part is that at least so far each one of these has been a pretty easy fix and like I said I really like the vehicle thats why I bought it so hopefully the software fix works as well as everyone said it did. I also think the driving shifting pattern seems a little off and a lot of folks say they saw improvements there also.

Does no one at Toyota read the dealer service reports?

Can they not see what kinds of problems are still happening?

These niggling problems are the kind of thing that will nuke a JD Powers initial quality rating.

While some will decry that JD Powers is a joke, it is nevertheless a point of research for a LOT of new vehicle buyers.

And a niggling problem, regardless of how minor it is, means ANOTHER trip to the dealer for a hopeful resolution, all the while burning another personal day from work.

Come on Toyota, get your act together.

My F250 Super Duty is 15 years old and will soon be able to get its own driver's license (never been back to the dealer, BTW). I want a new truck.

By the time they get these straightened out, there will be a lot more to choose from than just the Canyorado and the Tacoma.

THERE IS NO TRANSMISSION TSB FOR THE 2017s. Your truck came from the factory with updated transmission software!

According to the TSB although your truck is a 2017, the VIN matches up with trucks with the old software and are effected

There's no fix for the rear howl as of yet. They replace the diff only for it to return.

Thanks, I will say that everything I read on here describes what is happening on mine to a T. The date of the TSB is just a few months ago and my truck was built like 2 months later so I guess it's not too surprising but thank you for checking.

According to the vin on the OP's truck it's effected. Just because a TSB is released doesn't necessarily mean that the next truck produced after that release isnt going to be effect. I'm sure the TSB will have an update to include 2017 Tacomas with the matching Vin numbers

Well it would certainly make sense that the improved transmission software would be installed on 2017s. It's not like the LCA plugs that would cost additional money (like $1.50). They've already sunk the cost so why not install the best software they have and save everyone some time. There'd be no additional cost.

I thought it was common knowledge on here and I'm pretty sure in one of the TSB threads someone with insider knowledge confirmed this.

TSB definitely reduced my fuel efficiency 1-2 mpg but it was worth it.
