Not that difficult... there are several videos on here and YouTube

Autozone rents tools to remove the ujoints but there is always the hammer and socket method

On the topic of carrier bearing, I found this over on ttora, whatchu guys think? Anyone have experience with this? He replaced the carrier bearing with a heavy duty pillow block bearing. OP claims less vibes and a more solid feel.

I also have a vibration at low speed between 2nd to 3rd gear but if I excelerate. It goes away. Took it the dealer and said maybe torque convertor vehicle only has 78000 miles oh yeah 2008 tacoma pre runner. Dealer recommended changing Tran fluid but did not cure problem thinking the carrier modification might be the fix

I just ordered the old man emu FK29 kit to fix this. It was 12.35 from Low Range Offroad. Free shipping. Comes with longer bolts, regular washers, and lock washers. Oh, and the spacer.

Figured this info would be grounds for a thread revival.

Works for some, no for others. That is the beautifully frustrating thing about our Tacomas.
    Good luck.

If the 1* shim doesn't work for me, I am going to entertain the double cardan joint route.

May have some shims for sale, if someone trying to cure "the vibes" need them.

Hey tacomaman06, I just replaced my carrier bearing and I was wondering if you have any of these shims left? The CB reduced a lot of the vibrations, but still having some, feel it mostly in the pedals and the rearviw is shaking to the point where cars look blurry.

    Thanks,

I am going to have to try this out! The vibration is a little annoying at times. haha

I used washers to fix mine today. The vibrating is way less than it was, but now there is a new sound. Seems to be on small bumps and comes from the area of the carrier bearing. I checked the bolts and they were tight. Removed 1 washer from each side(it took 3 to make 1/4 inch) and the new sound seems to be gone, but the vibration isn't as dampened as it was.

My stock 2008 is experiencing this issue all of a sudden...vibration 35mph-70mph. I have 69,000 miles... What I'm getting from this thread is the spacers for the CB is only gonna help lifted Tacomas....My options are to look at my:
    1) CB
    2) U-joints
    3) Torque Convertor
    4) Driveshaft

for wear? Is that correct y'all?

OK so I put a 1in. block in the rear and I now have a ever so slight take off shuttle right at 5 mph. Never had it before. I have the OME 883 coils on 5100s set @ 0 up front. Will this work for my situation? This is on a 2011 prerunner .

They are the one that maxtrac makes from HeadStrong off road . No they do not have any taper being only 1in. They are a solid block .

As far as i am aware any amout of lift needs to have a tapered block or axel shims in place of the block has no taper (like yours) to help correct drive line angles. Id get tapered blocks or axle shims to correct your issue.

I did this and it helped some. I suggest others to try it if they have the vibration issue

I am getting vibrations between 43-46mph or so. Just ordered the OME kit from low range off road.

Mine was from a stop slow shutter. Just installed Bilstein shim kit with pins and it's about 95% gone now. Just a hint of a shutter.
