Well if all goes well Monday night I will be picking up mine from Dealer... I did have to bring a 17!home today for a test fit for my garage as the 17 is 4.5 inches longer that my 14 and when I took it back I shook it out on the toll road. And it did down shift and upshift rapidly at speeds above 75 mph....

Get use to the downshifting frequently at higher speeds! Rpms are to low to sustain the higher speeds in 6th gear, so it down shifts! Not so bad under 70 mph on flat roads.

2017 TRD sport w/ Tow package. Got my fluid checked at the dealership today and also had the TSB done. 1/2 quart low. Didn't really have any glaring issues before but it drives so much better now. Just an FYI for those who think the 2017s come preloaded with the tsb, it doesn't. My local dealer in Olympia WA was awesome. No questions asked and they checked the fluid level for me after telling them I was concerned.

Edit: whole process took about 3 hours but I live fairly close to the dealership so they probably didn't have to wait as long for the trans to cool.

Dealer was not giving me a stright answer on checking the trans fluid so did it myself. Added about 3 oz of fluid. So not to low. It was good to know its full and won't have to worry about it or fight with the service tec anymore. Having someone in the truck to tell you when the light comes on helps. Good job for wife ! Thanks to all who posted how to check it

I finally checked mine myself (2016 Taco, build date 7/16 Texas), but did it the ‘easy’ way – bought the “Scan Gauge”, although it cost $160 it’s worth it to have it if only as a trans temp gauge for towing (NOTE – if you buy one of these you need to ‘code’ it for the trans temps, easy to do just follow the instructions and get the ‘codes’ on the web, but one code, the “MTH” is one digit too many, when you enter it, just leave off the first 0 in the sequence, see image, i put a red line thru the first 0 - hope i posted this correctly, sorry i am new to the forum).
    code.jpg

Important for those not transmission savvy - the "AC60E_ AUTOMATIC_TRANSMISSION FLUID_ ADJUSTMENT_2016-12.pdf" does not say this, but BE SURE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING (in park) WHEN YOU PULL THE TRANSMISSION OVERFLOW PLUG! And, as other threads mentioned, watch for that damn heat shield, it got me - was wondering where the trans fluid was coming from when i was unscrewing the plug, only to find out it was my own blood - i failed to pay attention, so easy to cut the back of your hand it's ridiculous.

The Adjustment guide also does not mention you need a 24mm socket to remove the overflow plug (knowing this ahead of time will keep you from putting your hand up there to check a sizes until you find one), and BTW if you don't have a 24mm, a 15/16 will work just fine.

The Scan Gauge gives you two trans temps (TF1 and TF2) - haven't figured out what areas of the trans they are measuring, but when i checked mine i waited until both temps were at minimum range (like 95 & 101), by the time i was done it heated up to max range (see image below) - perfect timing. Oh - and a great place to put the gauge, right in front of that weird useless cavity to the left of steering wheel (and then you have a secret stash box behind it :))

    Scan Gauge.jpg

Oh - My trans was not low (2016 Taco 4x4 Offroad, build date 7/16 Texas, with a tow package), I pumped in about 3 ounces before it started coming out the overflow, then took about a minute to come to a drip-drip-drip. So I am very happy and relieved to know the trans is full without relying on trusting a service tech.

Also thought i should mention, especially those with 4x4 (where trans looks a little different than image in adjustment guide) - here are some picts of the refill plug location (crawl under passenger side):

    2 quarts transmission fluid
Summary: at 7,000 miles transmission fluid was found to be 2 quarts low. No help from corporate or dealer.

I brought my 2016 in at 5,000 for the tire rotation "service". I told them about the transmission issues when it was cold and that the fluid may be low. The dealer said they cant check because it is a "sealed unit". Then when I picked up the truck they said they checked it it and found was ~1/4 quart low and then they topped it off. Except they only checked the oil. When I asked about the Transmission I got the same "sealed unit" response as to why they cant check it.

After driving 7,000 miles, I found this thread. I called corporate ahead of time and all of a sudden the dealer knew exactly what I was talking about and found it was 2 quarts low!

I called corporate several times asking about a warranty extension to no avail. Back and forth with the dealership as well. Below are my notes from my call.

    Corporate
Me: Can Toyota provide an extended warranty for my transmission since it was found to be 2 quarts low and which has now reduced the life of the transmission.

Toyota: Our stance is that we are not offering an extended warranty for this issue.
My notes do not specify why it is not extended.

Toyota: Since there is no current issue with vehicle Toyota has not found that it is an issue.

Me: Can I speak with an engineer to explain why Toyota thinks that this is not an issue?
    Toyota: No

Me: What are you doing about the existing fleet?
    Toyota: No plans in place

Me: Im not calling your factory robots lazy for not filling the transmission with enough fluid. Clearly there is an issue with procedure at factory. What is being done to correct this
Toyota: No access to the procedure, we will add your comments to our customer feedback.

Me: What are you doing for other customers with a similar issues?
    Toyota: Information not available

Toyota did not acknowledge that this is a problem

    No extended warranty was given

    DEALER
    I called my dealer.

Dealer: We noted your issue and on "good faith" help with issues you have in the future since it was in the notes.
Me: So an extended warranty? Why cant you just give me an extended warranty for this issue isn't that the same thing.

    Dealer: BS about "good faith"
Me: I bout this truck on "good faith" that you filled it with transmission fluid! Don't talk to me about having good faith in you now after you sold me a truck low on transmission fluid and dismissed my issue at 5,000 miles. It is your responsibility to check the fluid, even if it came low from the factory.

Dealer: We dont check that because it is a sealed unit.
Me: I read the sign-off list that has the checklist for checking the transmission fluid!
Dealer: O well it gets checked at the port not here at the dealership its not our fault.

Dealer: Warranty comes from corporate call them
Me: Is there something a dealer can provide that would get warranty?
Dealer: I will get my regional manger to call you.

Regional M: still wont provide warranty. "but let us know what corporate says"

I reached a dead end. Let me know if there is something specific I can call them out on. When I hang up from Toyota, it is the strangest feeling in the world. I presented what sounded like a logical argument and then they replied like a politician. I never lost my temper so I thought it would be easy to resolve.

I am going through the same issue you have. Toyota and there dealers don't care about anything anymore except to make money. We do have a 60k powertrain warranty. That is what corporate told me. I will never buy another Toyota again. I believe most if not all Toyota dealers are jiffy lubers, all they do are oil changes and general maintenance. If something goes wrong they call in a field tech. There is a Honda dealer across the street from Toyota and there service is great. The Nissan dealer sucks like the Toyota dealer. Oh, they do want your business and your money. All we can do is scream and fill out those CSI surveys if you get one. I hope you like working on vehicles cause if you want something done you have to do it yourself. We have 25k miles free maintenance and I bet the dealers won't do it or give us crap oil, the wrong oil, not change the filter and after warranty is out it is on us. Another way they make money.

    I know, I know!
I have owned my truck for 5 days. This morning after reading all 40 pages here I purchased 3 quarts of ATF WS from the local dealer. I was almost 2 quarts shy. To say I'm gutted is an understatement! I intend to contact corporate today. Truck (2017 DCLBOR with tow) has 400 miles.

Can someone tell me what is the total oil capacity for the transmission? Is it really just over 3 quarts?
I'm hoping the answer is no.

    Cheers

Three quarts low is a huge amount, if you did a complete drain and refill it's supposed to take a total of 3.3 quarts, if replacing the torque converter then 4.4. See page 3 in the "AC60E_ AUTOMATIC_TRANSMISSION FLUID_ ADJUSTMENT_2016-12.pdf". Make sure you checked it correctly, truck level, right temperature, and all that fun stuff, be sure you didn't over fill it, good luck! I was lucky mine was the correct level when i checked it.

2017 OR DC A/T here. Took it to my local mechanic to check the fluid level and he added 3/4 quart to the transmission. He said it wasn't too bad.

Unrelated, he checked my U-Bolts and tightened them a bit more. It wasn't loose, but it was on the lowest end of the torque spec range.
