    Hi everyone.

I have a 2017 TRD Sport DC 2WD short bed with 500 miles on it.
I haven't had a brand new car in a long time. And was wondering if some one here knows around when the gas mileage will settle.
If I remember correctly. when the engine is brand new. it will use a lot more gas. And as it brakes in.. little by little it will do more miles per gallon.
When I first got it. it was doing an avg of 15 mpg. now is doing around 18. Thats in about 2 weeks.
So my question is. around what mileage I should not expect any more increase in the mileage that it does per gallon?

    Thanks you.

There are so many variables when it comes to gas mileage, but most everything is settled in around the 1000 mile mark.

I didn't notice any change in MPG from day 1 up to 10k miles. However, after the tranny TSB, I seem to be getting ~1mpg more.

On my 08 Fusion it seemed like it didn't really settle at all... although at 90K I started noticing a 2 mpg increase. I'd say a couple more expensive tanks of gas will get your right foot calibrated lol

I have owned way too many brand new vehicles and not a single one of them had a MPG change from day 1 to the last. I think break in periods, if they ever even existed, went away a long time ago.

I get what its rated for. I don't see anything below 18 and anything higher than 23-usually. It got better after 1000 I think

I agree that the gas mileage seemed to get better as time went on. I am not sure how much of that is engine break-in or me just learning to drive it efficiently. The only time I am sure it is the engine is when it is cold. My mileage is significantly lower until the engine reaches normal operating temperature. But that makes sense due to the ECM purposely running the engine rich.

I work hard in traffic to manage energy and spend most of the time coasting between traffic lights; usually to the profound irritation of the people behind me. I can get up to 23-24 if I get the technique right and the lights cooperate.

Yesterday I did a 40 mile each way highway trip. I set the cruise control on 70 and got 20.1 exactly both ways. This is in Florida on relatively flat roads. I will note that prior to the TSB I would have had to feather the gas pedal after every hill to do that; now I can just let the truck drive.

At 75 mph I can only get 19 and sometimes less if it is hilly.

F*CK!!!!!!! You must drive worse than me!! I have a TRD OR AC 4x4 3.5 and I love to bitch about only averaging 16.5/17.5 on a truck that is rated at 19/23. I chalk my sh*tty mileage up to tires, LEER shell and a heavy foot.... You drivin' up hill, both ways everywhere you go or something?

On my 2013 it improved slowly up to about 5k. I was at dealership one day and one of the service writers said a buddy with a Tundra saw improvement all the way to 10k.

Driving my same daily route I started out at 15 mpg, at 2000 miles or so it was like someone flipped a switch and I now get 17 mpg. I follow the speed limits. On rare occasion long distance freeway I get just under 20 mpg. This is per tank full with the ECO display. I checked the eco display with actual mileage and fuel consumed and it is extremely close in its calculations. All using the same brand of gas except the first tank which the dealer put in. My 3.5 TRD automatic offroad has not even come close to the numbers that some people get on this site. I have not had the transmission update yet but it is full of tranny fluid. No thanks to Toyota. Still running stock as purchased truck with the only additions are mud flaps rock sliders and hard shell tonneau cover. Additional equipment didn't drop or add to the mileage achieved. I have a little over 6,000 miles now. I am too old to hot dog or drive over the speed limit so my mileage isn't anything special.
