Howdy folks. First post here. A couple months ago, I finally bought my dream truck- A 2011 Tacoma TRD, with a long bed, double cab, and lots of great bells and whistles, and added a Leer camper top last week. I LOVE my truck.

Yesterday, I was driving along a paved country road and went around a corner at ~40 miles per hour, and all of sudden, it sounded like the wheel was rubbing the fender, the brake pedal jumped under my foot, and there were a lot of beeps. I pulled over asap, checked out everything I could think of, looked for tire and suspension problems, rubbing, etc., but found nothing.
It wasn't a sharp turn, and no different from lots of other turns. I wasn't going anywhere near too fast for the turn. I cautiously continued on, and drove it some more today, but no problems. However, now a "Maint Required" light came on. I plan to take it in to be checked, but thought I should check here first. If anyone has an idea of what's going on, I'd appreciate any thoughts. My wife and I plan to drive it from Tennessee to Maine and back in a couple weeks, so I'm a bit nervous.
    Cheers,
    Adrian

Yeah, it sounds like something to do with ABS. As far as the maintenance light, that's a coincidence. That's not linked to anything except your odometer. It automatically comes on every 5k miles

Your VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) activated - it works together with / is part of the same system as the ABS, and activates individual brakes to prevent skidding or rollover. Lifting tacomas with VSC can cause issues with over-sensitivity, sometimes a calibration can help. Search VSC here on TW and you should find more than a few threads on the issue, with lots of good info.

I agree, maint light is just your oil change interval.
The check engine light is there for codes, not the maint light.

Was the road wet, have loose gravel on it, or do you have a lift?

Sounds like abs and/or stability control.

Some lifts make the vsc super touchy

I wondered about the road being slippery too, and didn't see any gravel, oil, etc. on road when I went back that way. It does have a lift kit. Not sure how much it's lifted. I had the tires rotated and suspension checked out about a month ago.

I drive a mountainous twisty paved road to work everyday. It happens to me on occasion only on right sweeping turns. I can almost predict when the vsc is gonna kick in because I can hear a discreet electronic hum right before, like a sensor or something. Now if I'm driving a little quicker around a right sweeper I keep my foot slightly depressed on the brake pedal. I find that this does not allow it to kick in before I enter the turn. Works for me anyway.

I believe you can go to the dealer and have them recalibrate it.

Mine did the same thing on corners... ^^^ this will most likely solve your issues (reset vsc) or if you don't care about money go get a yaw calibration at the dealership lol

I get my vsc recalibrated anytime I mess with my suspension. I just tell the tech at the yota dealer when he does my alignment to calibrate it. I actually need to get it calibrated again. Mine has kicked in a few times recently. I wonder does having semi bald m/t tires contribute to it kicking in?
