    Hi forum members;

I joined this site prior to buying a 2017 TRD OR DC as I'm ignorant of anything TACO related, except for the kind of taco that holds ground beef, tomatoes, onions and cheese.

I have owned many Saabs starting in 1980 all the way up to 2007 and their demise. But I've never owned a pickup and I've settled on the 2017 TRD OR. I was considering the 2017 Pro but when pricing came out I realized it was too much for me and it seems the TRD OR is pretty close? Am I correct?

After review threads on this forum I'm a little concerned about the rear end axle noise problem but I'm hoping Toyota has fixed this. I would guess their staff reads threads on forums like this one...no?

Since I do a lot of skiing and have always had a 2nd set of winter wheels I'm planning on getting a set of Nokia's for the winter. Thinking I won't get the spare wheels on this one and just have the tire company mount/balance every season.

I would appreciate any feedback regarding real-world driving in the snow with this vehicle as well as anything to consider before purchasing (specific to this vehicle).

    thanks in advance

    Steve

i just got mine. It's the quietest, smoothest truck i've ever owned. A lot of these guys like to complain. Some of these guys actually had bad things happen to their trucks. Go test drive one. They are really nice trucks. The TRD Pro is badass but it's out of my price range, and my truck goes offroad almost....never.

Some people don't post here because they A) get turned off by the negative nancies, trolls, etc, and B) they don't have anything to complain about. And we all know the rules of internet message boards:

IF YOU DONT HAVE ANYTHING NEGATIVE OR MEAN TO SAY, THEN DONT SAY ANYTHING AT ALL.

well to be honest, you can get the OR for a significantly less price compared to the Pro. You said the Pro wasn't too much more. You must be somewhat interested in the sunroof, BSM, etc. if you really want all that and can still get your hands in a Pro for similar price, is go with the Pro. Sure you can get an OR and lift it for cheaper but if your already within 1-2k of the Pro price go for it and have something the next person down the road will pay premium for. You can get the OR for a lot cheaper if you aren't interested in the sunroof, BSM and all that and still have a very nice truck. You can even lift the OR and have money left over, but....you'll have to give up those extra perks that aren't needed by most people.

From my experience I am very satisfied with my truck. The milage was decent at one point at 22-24mpg, no noises, no shifting issues or anything else. My suggestion to you is find on you are happy with drive it make sure your satisfied with the way it drives sound wize and response wize. Then work out a deal. Don't drive one and buy another, if you want the one on the showroom floor make them pull it out to let you test drive it. That's what I did with my wife's Raptor. If they want the sale bad enough they'll do it if not then, the next guy will. This will probably save you 90% of the complaining that has been floating around here. Buy only what you have driven.

I love my 16 OR, despite everything. I've been able to spend some money on extras that I like and make it mine. I would find one you like and test drive it, overnight if possible. This forum has good info, just have to sift through the nonsense most of the time. For the money, IMO, the OR is a much better buy than the Pro and it fit my budget much better. Good luck in your quest :)

thanks for your feedback bulldog, perpetualenigma3, offsetplayer2, and captainsloose ... From what I can figure out the OR is $8K+ less than the new 2017 Pro so that's why I'm shooting for that one. I don't need the sunroof or other fancy features but I do want the locking rear diff, and crawl control. Good idea to buy what I've driven and nothing else. Here in Santa Fe we only have one dealer and down in Albuquerque there are maybe 2 dealers so I'll be starting with them.

Yeah good choice plus you get a way better suspension than the factory Fox on the TRD pro for way less than 8. $5K will get you a full suspension that substantially surpasses the Factory Fox suspension and the extra $3k will get you some nice wheels and tires to match.

You'll love it. I just got a TRD OR a month ago and I have no regrets. Don't know that I would bother running 2 sets of tires though. Just a good set of all terrains should do the job just fine, just my 2c

I considered the Pro at one time. Then I found out it did not come in a long bed configuration and that took me out of the market I hail stuff with my truck and need the extra bed space

If you're interested in sunroof or the JBL stereo upgrade, realize those aren't available on the TRD PRO.

You're also probably going to be better able to negotiate on an OR than on a PRO at this point.

You'll find a lot of great info here along with a splash of colorfulness ;) and some shenanigans.
Enjoy the shopping experience and just make sure to do long test drives in the environment you will drive the truck in.
