Seems a little steep...Type 53s can be had all day on GB for about 2 hundred bucks. I remember a couple of years ago I got 2 Mosins for a little over a hundred bucks each! Mosins are a better investment than the stock market lol.

Agreed, that's one of the reasons I got my C&R a few years ago.

Cheapest I've seen online is at Southern Ohio Guns, I think round receiver MNs are going for $185 and of course you can get Handpicked (10.00), manufacturer (Tula or Izzy) that adds to the cost. SOG is very reputable, I've bought a few MNs and a couple other CR guns from them and always happy with the results. The price of a good MN at the local gun dealer is pushing $275, too pricey for my blood.

All matching Type 53's in good shape aren't that common and can command a higher premium. Same with polish and Hungarian M44's.
Finnish capure M38 would be a uncommon rifle.

A Puoly MN is on my wants list, nice guns Paul. I think I'm going to go to the next gun show at York, I've never been but I hear it's a good time. I just renewed my 03 license so I got the bug to buy.

The more I buy the more interesting it gets for me. The new england Westinghouse I'm getting is actually double struck SA stamped, I thought that was cool.

These are 3 different K markings on 3 different rifles. Can't figure out the meaning.

First gun I ever bought M91/30. Hours of stripping cosmoline out of every nook. But it was a blast to shoot. My buddy had an M44 which had a cannon fireball flash with each shot. That metal skull cracker butt stock does no favors on the shoulder, haha

A buddy of mine picked up a 1943 M38 from a private seller, it's an early CAI import and looks like it was never shot. I'm no expert in M38s but this one has a long bayonet, different from an M44, as well as the serial number stamped into the left side of the receiver. No other unusual marks. Is this common for the M38? My understanding is that most M38s did not have a bayonet. It also has a rough coat of shellac, looks like someone brushed it on, not part of the refurb process. Is there a way to safely remove the shellac without messing up the stock?

Was recently gifted a Mosin, subbed for future reading. Once assisted a friend with an Archangel stock install and bolt/handle mod for scope mount, not sure I'll go the same way though...

Is the bayonet attached to the gun? If so most likely M44, you can find them in the 1943 date range I believe.
