This is going to be my next mod and im in the same boat as you i have no idea where to even fit the bump cans on the frame let alone finding a place for them to land. I have seen where people have made landing pads out of plate if you cant get them to hit the u bolt plates. This is what im going to have to do this winter. My pitmam arm nut and oil pan currently make shitty bump stops.

The IFS is fairly strong on the 2nd gen. A D44 is not fairly strong on anything except a plastic power wheel your child drives around

Don't waste your time or money. If you wanna do anything, D60 swap. If your shit works now, then use it.

Yeah the ones I have seen go right in front and under the shocks. We have a bump can laying around so may shove it in there and see. Also picked up a set of 12" fox with the adjusters on them for front and that should help some. And also want to get a flat pitman or 3/4 less drop from sky since its shorter and will hopefully let me move the axle an inch foward.

Was thinking of doing something like this if they will fit under the shock. A platform above the u bolts. Wider space to hit and wont mess up the u bolts but not sure how they mounted it.

Its probibly just welded on the plate. My problem is my springs are directly below the frame rails so i would have to mount mine inboard of the frame and build a landing pad... booo

Anyone interested in some brand new Longfield 300M universal joints? One joint is still sealed in bag, one joint was opened to fondle. Full circle clips, grease zerks, etc.

Found these on the shelf still. These are $282 each from Trail-gear. I'll do $350 for the pair shipped bc I could use some cash. No less.

Better to ask what I have not done.
Well when you ACTUALLY put it to paper and do it. It works awesome and sits low.
High pinions in the front is mechanicaly stronger then a low pinion in the front. So strength wise as long as the gears are quality they will do just fine. Get chromoly shafts and cheap warn hubs, hubs are my granade point and they are cheap. Have yet to break one....

    Oh and
    image.jpg image.jpgimage.jpg

High pinion DANA 44 hd with 1/2 inch thick tubes and 315/75 r16 cooper stt pros. Does awesome, and i get more complements for how stealthy and low/clean it looks vs a buddy with huge hight, tons and 40s.....

    To each their own.

You are getting away with a D44 under a 2nd gen tacoma because you got the beefed up full width version with the 1/2" thick tubes and high pinion. Is that axle from an old school F250 BTW? A different D44 wouldn't survive long under that heavy truck.

    Good looking truck!

Keeping those 3 words in the same build means a shit load of $$$$ :D

Correct. But thats what he possibly has too. I just was saying that you can build it with a dana 44. Just what i did and it works for me.

    Sure. I certainly agree.

i was just trying to highlight that the D44 you have is not the typical D44 guys used back in the days when the 1st gen tacomas started getting SASed. Those were narrower, had different tubes and low pinion. It is not an apples to apples comparison. But guys used it because it was the right size axle to keep the tacoma factory width, so that they could keep the factory rear axle without running spacers. plus back then most people ran 35"s only anyway, and the 1st gent tacomas are smaller/lighter than your truck.

I think anybody using a D44 for a SAS under a Tacoma should certainly use the one you have. It was a very smart move on your part.

1ton axles are probably the best way to go with 2nd gens....that is, for guys that are intending hard core wheeling.

Yeah was helping a buddy this weekend (watching) lowering his 2nd gen 3". Looks truly awesome and I'm sure will perform better lowered.

Local-ish guy wheels the hell out of his 2nd gen with a 44 under it and does fine. He is also running 37s I believe with the stock 8.4" rear axle .. he's on here, cbf to look him up, 4x4 taco rar or something.
