TRD Supercharger....Any Thoughts

I have 15,000 on my '09 TRD Off Road 4x4 double cab 6spd man which just wants to move as it is. The Black Cat exhaust is an added bonus but I want to do two things: Lift the rig a couple inches and add a TRD Supercharger. I usually get a ton of life out of my engines...250,000 on my '95 4runner without a rebuild. Some say that the supercharger will significantly decrease the engine life of the engine. Thoughts? Ideas?

 

it will/can depending on your driving style with that supercharger

 

Well it probably doesn't help you engine

 

it really depends on how much you beat on it.

if you use the power for the occasional spirited run from a stoplight or passing people on the interstate, or the occasional towing. You really shouldnt have any ill effects.

When cruising, the blower puts a negligible amount of additional stress and actually makes it run more efficient.

If you are like some out there, and really could replace you throttle pedal with an on/off switch . There would be extra wear and tear.

if you want more power go with the urd supercharger ive seen guys get 400 plus out of the xrunner with it anything that will cause more stress on your engine parts will probably put some wear and tear on engine parts you can always switch out engine parts with stronger ones that are designed for the stress if you get the trd supercharger installed by toyota ive heard theyll cover everything under warranty you should be good toyotas are built to last

 

I dont think this is exactly right, many Lightning guys have shown even highway cruising the Eaton hurts your MPG. Case in point a guy drove to his tuner with his ported eaton and used 3/4 of a tank, no horsing around. They swapped on a whipple and he drove the same route home and used just over a half tank.

I dont think there are any long term negative effects from the parasitic loss of spinning the blower at cruise however.

that said so long as you dont beat the living hell out of it and run crappy gas it should still live a pretty long, healthy life so long as you keep a good tune and good plugs in it

There may have been a problem with his bypass actuator then. The blower is belt driven, so its always spinning, the bypass actuator will be open to allow the excess air to be recycled back into the intake tract under normal vacuum.

 

For this particular setup, most see a slight increase in MPG during cruising.

When I installed the TRD on my old 3.4, the MPG increased slightly

The same thing happened when I installed the URD MKI and MKII on my X-runner.

Once I find the Dcab, I have a TRD blower for it, so I will see how that goes and if the trend continues .

They should be more efficient during cruising.

the superchargers swirls the air into the combustion chamber, the effect of swirling air usually increases the efficiency of a internal combustion engine. Swirling air burns better in the combustion chamber so usually u will get some added mpg's. Now when people put s/c's on there ride they usually drive it harder thats why u dont hear many people getting better mpg's!!

Installing a supercharger does not significantly decrease the engine life. If it is properly fueled and tuned the engine will last a very long time.

I have a TRD Supercharger on my 96 4Runner, Serial number 299, and it has 190,000 miles on the truck with a URD 7th injector system. The engine is in perfect shape and I drive it all over the country to off road events. I use boost constantly!!!

My 2005 XRunner has been boosted with a URD system for the last 70,000 miles and makes some serious power. The engine is in great shape. No oil consumption and the compression is right where it should be.
