There is definitely some merit to your logic.

Unfortunately the truck has been pushed to the back burner. We have been a bit preoccupied after an accident took the life of one of my best friends. He was the operations manager for the Richard Petty Race experience in Orlando and was killed in an accident on the track.

The first trip is in a few weeks so the time I have will be spent working on going over everything and getting the truck ready as is. The only real addition to the truck will be a sticker in his honor:

While I was gone another buddy got my truck into the audio shop and started working on a new system and wiring. Still have to finish the sub box so I will put pics up after that.

Lack of progress update. Tires are still on backorder. May end up with toyos if they can actually get them in.

I decided for the time being to just swap gears into one of my good 4:10 diffs. Month later still have it all layed out on the bench. I guess i havent had 4wheel drive in a year and i havent had a problem without.

At least the new trailer finally came in. New trailers pull so nice.

I ordered tires more than a month ago and they pushed the availability date back again. 285's in Toyo's also ended up being on backorder so
    I ended up with 295/70-17 Toyo MT's.

Now I have to get the truck where it will run again. I have been getting a camp position sensor code randomly all summer. Somtimes the truck stalls and wont want to start for a for a couple minutes and then will be fine after that. Sometimes it throws a code and still runs fine. Either way it would only stall once in a day and might not happen any given day. So I replaced the CPS and no change. After some research I found this thread:
    http://www.customtacos.com/forum/13-performance/60712-p0340-obd-ii-code-2.html
so next step is to test the 7th injector controller sounds pretty similar to what those guys were seeing.

Spent the weekend at the dunes.

Friday sheared a tooth off the rear ring gear. Luckily it lodged itself between the carrier and gear and didn't do any other damage. Pulled the third and removed the chunk and ran the rest of the weekend that way.

Because of that I started running 4x4 which I had put in thursday night. Saturday I was pushing the truck alittle hard for being in 4x4 and landed front right hard once. This caused me to break the bearing cage on the cv. Sucks because it was the first day I actually used 4wheel.

Also found out the new tires almost clear, almost. Need to do some trimming, at least there isn't that much needed.

Cool. And you set it up to where it's just fastened on the insides so it pushes up if your tire hits it?

Nice toyo's too. How do you like them? Not sure what I want. I was leaning towards ko2 because I know they last and are a decent a/t.

Correct. The outside sits nicely on the lip of the fender. The new tires are beating them up a bit but they have held up well over the years.

Tires really depend on what you are going to do mostly with the truck. I have been very happy with the Toyo's so far. This truck spends most of it time in soft sand and they seem to do very well. I can get around in 2wd no problem. I only run 5 psi but they seem to float and still drive forward. Some people prefer to run less aggressive tires in the sand. They tend to float more and put alot less strain on parts.

For the first time in I can't remeber how long, I am ending dune season without anything broken that needs to fix. Granted we did have to fix it to take it to the dunes, but we can actually make progress on it this winter. I just need to get the Grand done and out of the way in the garage.

Now to start a list of what to attempt to finish this winter. After seeing the Jeep roll in front of me that a lady died in makes me think the main thing on the list should be to finish the cage. That was the second rollover that happened by me Saturday. First time freaked the wife out after we came over test alittle hot. We then watched another guy in our group stand his truck on his front bumper and a razor roll 3 time behind him.

Got the first pile of jeep parts, so time to get working on it so I can get to the Taco.

Got some fun stuff for the truck.
ADS Triple Bypasses for the front. Don't have them yet but should soon.

Rugged Radio intercom and car to car setup and a handheld for the Jeep:

An econoline 9". Not sure if I am going to use it or just go full fabed housing when the time comes, but figured it would be a good thing to have around.:

Installed the Rugged Radio stuff yesterday. For some reason the intercom is not transmitting out on the radio but I can receive radio transmissions on the intercom. The radio calls out fine from the handheld mic.

Will you be able to use those with the stock LCA shock hoop?

Yes, with were my truck bumped and strapped it would have worked. The travel was not setup to match the coilover exact so I ended up cutting the mounting tabs and welding new ones on. The hoop was alittle high so I used a set of longer tabs to place the coilover and the bypass at the same place in there travel.

So after a few transmisions and rear end decided its time to build a traction bar. Took the truck to Halo and we got alot more cage work done, but didn't get to a trac bar.
Let me know what people think.

Looks really bad ass, I was wondering how you liked the dual shock setup with the stock lower control arm when crawling. Like you I also use my truck for high speed bashing and low speed crawling so I don’t want to sacrifice anywhere I dont have to

Thanks man. I really liked that setup. The truck performed very well all round. The only downfall is to soften up for crawling you need a clicker resi or bypasses and no real way to do a airbump.
