    Depending on what way you go up you lose reception quite early in the trip. if you go up I80 and cut over from Truckee you lose reception about 10 miles after you cut over on 89. if you go through Marysville, you lose reception just around where you turn from Marysville rd. into 49.

    July 2 at the top of the trail to Sierra Buttes (where the green fire gate is). Just finished hiking up and back to fire look-out at top of Buttes.

    Did not take the trail from Sierra City up back side. To afraid of that big bolder blocking the trail. Some day I'll bring a chisel and sledge (maybe some beer) and spend some time reducing it to rubble.

    That's too funny...and I actually have this trail on my to do list...have the same book as the op and have a number of trails with post its on it...gonna try and do as many of em as I can

    there are some trails up there that I wouldn't go on with zero experience. Just going to gold lake 4x4 camping spot you should be fine its not that bad.
