    Is there a 5/8 2 meter antenna that is roof mounted to fill in my Wilson 1000?

    Thinking of pulling out my Wilson cb antenna and putting a hard mounted ham there instead. My ham is just a magnet mount mounted in the rear bed cage.

    I will have to look. MOST HAM antennas, 2m for example, are pretty much specific to HAM freq (i.e. 144-148). As you go above/below, your SWR may get affected? When you are transmitting, your radio is "vibrating" the antenna to whatever freq it is trying to transmit. As you go "out of range" then you get reflections (i.e. this is where tuning comes in... CB for example). Anyways, I'm pretty sure there is, but I would have to look? I honestly don't know off the top of my head. :notsure: And, you say, you want it "hard mounted"? That is, poking a hole in the roof of your cab is what you are getting at? Since TX freq for trails are around the 150MHz, you could actually make one specific? Might be a bit shi**y though. I have a 162-174MHz mag mount NMO style antenna (I believe that is the freq range of those... they're in my storage unit right now).

    I have to look up the specs of mine and. I cut it down to work prime for 150 and up. It's pretty sweet. Has a 6db gain too. I just wanted to get away from my magnet mount and go hard mount.

    The antenna that I have is this. 1/4 though and the freq rating.

    Yeah, cutting your own you can work as well. You can get an NMO style connector, I believe, and hard mount. Just make sure to weather proof the thing as much as possible!!! I know you obviously know that, just say'n. Anyways, this might be the way to go other than just remember about "low ceiling" locations if you decide to go that route!!!

    Damn I thought mine passed close to the transfer case! I wrapped it in that motorcycle lavarock heat wrap... May not do much to help but sure made me feel better.

    I started to look at Ham antennas... not only are the places to find them far more... obscure? But the selection is so much more confusing lol. THese guys need someone who is experienced in webstore development to help them out.

    It's pretty hard to search though all of it. I require a pretty strong antenna to handle the crap I throw at it. Maybe I'll just get a new magnet mount for my cab. I just happen to separate the magnet from the housing over whoops.

    The freq that are chosen (for example, 151.xxx), again, are NOT "weatherman" LOL... I won't get into that I promise, but yeah, are closer to commercial radio freq usage. I've been playing with antenna programs recently and am thinking about investing in buying one so I can design my own someday. Gets pretty involved, but fun to mess with either way... for me that is, LOL!!!

    And THAT is where magmounts SUCKA$$!!! Just my humble opinion, but I'd much rather have a hard mount over all. I have magmounts "at my disposal", but would only go to those for "emergency purposes"!!!

    I'd hard mount if I were you. I'm already working on it... Figuring out how it all works is tough. It seems like all the "guides" either assume you have no fucking idea what electrical theory is or how an antenna works, or, you're well versed in many aspects already and they glance over that "Antenna selection 201" piece straight for the "Masters" level stuff.

    @MadTaco461 Mike, I would try to go this route that Denny is suggesting.

    I NEED A F'N GARAGE!!! :smash::goingcrazy::frusty::boom::bananadead::annoyed:
