I am curious as well. I've been experiencing the classic throwout bearing chirp on my 2012 6-speed. I contacted URD to see if the Throwout Bearing Upgrade/Repair Kit (sleeve repair kit) is a permanent fix because I had heard of someone installing the fix and the chirp didn't go away. They said:

"it is about a 90% fix. There is still a chance it will return. It is a problem with the over design of the mechanism. For whatever reason Toyota has the bearing pull off the clutch and there is a space. As the clutch wears the fingers come further out and can start making intermittent contact with the bearing face again and start squeaking again."

They went on to say that the only 100% fix is the FIX-U Hydro bearing conversion kit. If anyone can vouch for that I would like to hear your experience. I'll probably end up getting the kit anyways tho.

Very interested in some feedback on this.

Had the original URD sleeve kit installed about 15k miles ago with a new clutch and the squeak is back.

I'm confused here with their description of the kit. Do I just need the Hydro bearing conversion kit once it becomes available (http://urdusa.com/store/p1260519431/URD-FIX-U-Hydro-Bearing-Conversion-Kit-"The-FIX"/product_info.html) and I can keep the recently installed clutch etc, or do I need their URD clutch, flywheel, pressure plate etc as shown here?

You should be able to use your own clutch. Like any company who sells a product that also sells a corresponding product, they'll always recommend their own. So unless URD sells a clutch specifically for use w/ the hydro bearing kit, it's the same as every other clutch in terms of fitment.

I just installed this kit in my truck and im having problems getting the clutch bled. It wont release the clutch enough to allow the trans to go into gear yet. And my pedal is extremely hard. Ive tried everything i can think of so if anyone else has done this conversion please let me know if you have any advice.
    Thanks

In the description of the FIX-U kit, it says you must use their clutch. The reason for this most likely is because the Conversion kit takes up more space than the throwout bearing, fork, etc. Because of less space in there after the conversion kit is installed, the URD clutches allow for that added space. I don't know this for a fact, but I just spoke with a clutch expert and that is what he said.

I also spoke with him about any extra parts/pieces that I may need to have him do the install. He said he can't suggest anything because it's not his kit or parts and can't warranty them. He also said that if he puts everything together and it doesn't work, he'll need to charge me extra labor to take it back apart and fix it.

So now my question for this kit is: What all do I need to have in order to have a mechanic install this kit properly? I would get the URD Stage 2 Clutch and the Kit itself for sure. But is there anything else that I would need so he can do the job once and get it right the first time? Any extra nuts & bolts that I'd need to get too?

I'm not saying you're clutch expert is wrong, but URD does not offer a clutch designated for use with the Fix-U kit exclusively. Since their clutches are designed to work with stock throwout release systems, the only reason, that I can think of, that the Fix-U kit shouldn't work with a stock clutch is if the length of the pressure plate fingers are different. That would mess with the collar that has to be installed to engage the fingers evenly. Even still, the difference shouldn't be that drastic. Also, since the hydraulic bearing has a 'very stiff spring' within it, it may put enough force on a stock pressure plate to reduce the clamping force significantly.

As for the extra parts, it looks to me like everything is included with the kit as long as 'hardware' includes what is needed to mount the new hard/soft lines.

8 months ago I was having the clutch chirp on my 08 fj cruiser. The vehicle had around 100+K miles on it, I ordered urd’s repair kit with the over bored throw-out bearing and stainless sleeve, Also ordered the heavy flywheel a stage 2 clutch plate and stage 2 clutch pressure plate. Last week the chirp was back accompanied with a grinding noise. I took it back to the shop that installed it. They removed it and sent me pics of the sleeve and bearing, The throw-out bearing was disintegrating the sleeve was scarred but according to urd was reuseable. As in previous commenters posts The Shop installing the parts had problems getting the clutch to disengage by normal adjustment (they originally thought they were having problems bleeding the master and slave). The only way they could get the disengagement was to adjust the pedal out.
I’m am currently waiting on the second bearing so I can get my vehicle back on the road.
I have concerns about the strength of the bearing, Because of the over bore and now the wall thickness is too thin. I have Never had a problem like this with a throw-out bearing. Is a stage 2 clutch setup to heavy for this over bored bearing?
I can’t afford to keep pulling transmissions out for a throw-out bearing, Also replacing a $125.00 Bearing. The warranty on the bearing is 6mos. The sleeve is Lifetime.

If I could figure out how to upload the pics of the bearing and sleeve I would post them. I’m thinking if there is room on the sleeve at the back end to put set screws there and turn down the sleeve to minimum wall thickness and take a unmolested bearing and bore it to the new tolerance(more meat) in the wall would be my next try. Before cutting off the quill.

Heres the problem, To me the wall thickness of the bearing is rather thin IMO. 8A1E21EF-B7CF-48C7-B4CA-411F0C18B2AE.jpg5A06B12B-F645-4A5D-AF68-14A15737746C.jpgB40FD7FE-6A87-457A-9A30-1F802073693F.jpg

I’m Not saying the URD supplied part is “shit”.
I’m questioning whether the bearing wall is sufficient for the stage 2 pressure plate.
I’m no engineer but something is substandard. If it happens again within a year then you and I Both know something is wrong.
Wish I’d used a oem clutch plate and pressure plate.

I'm just about to drop my transmission after a significant increase in the chirping ('06, 180000 kms). I've been living with the chirp for a couple years.
I'm thinking URD sleeve kit but not sure about clutch yet. This thread has got me thinking something other than the URD clutch. Aisin?

I haven't laid eyes on the internals yet, but I'm sure I'm going to need the URD sleeve. It's a bad racket under there, worse than any recording I've heard of other trucks.

Any advice is appreciated and I will document findings for the entertainment of all.

Hoping it doesn't pack it in while pulling the boat this week. Going fishing. Want to order parts before I go and drop tranny when I return.

Removed the inspection plate today and had a look. Throw-out bearing is wobbling side to side on the snout. I think I detect two simultaneous chirps of different notes - one from where the bearing rides on the snout and one from how it contacts the pressure plate at an angle. Sprayed a cautious amount of lube at the bearing to see if it would change the sound, but no difference.

I don't know if the clutch has ever been done on this truck but will have one on hand. I suspect it is still the original clutch. (I bought the truck with about 140000 kms on the odometer.) The PO was pretty good at documenting maintenance performed and there is no mention of clutch work anywhere.

Has anyone seen a write-up on dropping the transmission? I'm not looking forward to removing the exhaust. Serious corrosion.

    Ordered the URD sleeve kit.
