If you are in a hot state then perhaps moisture in the valves has not been an issue.

Oh for sure! Its 100% not a cure all, but like you stated if it fixes one of the possible causes of the failures, its worth it.

Ok, thanks for the reminder about ebay, I did order one although several of the vendors I checked were out of stock, seems to be a really popular size. Arch.

Also noticed that the price of the filter has gone up from around $12 to around $16.

This thread seems to have created more demand vs supply just like that gas pipe leak fiasco in the SE US, artificially raising prices.

I know UNI has an e-bay store and saw it on there for like $12 and some change. Doesn't have to be "UNI" brand as long as it's a 1" inlet filter/breather.

    Here's a K&N alternative.

Is the pump cover for looks or function to silence the pump?

I think that it serves as protection. And it does give the pump a finished look. Mine came with one.

The pump noise is the same with the New filter on. I haven't experimented with running the truck with the cover off.

Mine's on the way from an eBay seller. Took a look at my filter and while it was whole, it looked and felt like it could possibly deteriorate with another year of heat. I'll sleep soundly once the old filter is out. Thanks to the thread starter and all of those who provided their experiences and photos!

Finally got around to getting this installed today. Foam was not in too bad of shape.

Question for the experts here...since I have 2012 which does not have the cover, is the consensus to purchase said cover? Really don't see any benefit other than making it look a little cleaner so to speak.

    Thanks in advance...

I have no idea what purpose that cover serves, but the way that they try to continuously cut costs there must be a reason for it or they would not have started to put it there.

But there are some of us with 2014s and 2015s that came brand spanking new off the lot with no cover.

I have the cover. 2015 sr5 4x4 DCLB 4.0. From CA.I would think if you 4 wheel or drive thru water or mud that you would want the cover for extra protection against moisture. Especially if you've removed your fender liners like me

I put this filter on last Friday. The old foam was fine, just slightly dirty. The impeller was fine. This morning my truck threw a P2432 code. I can hear the pump run when the truck is cold and it sounds normal.

Could the new filter not let enough air through it? I wouldn't think so.

    Anyone have any ideas?

Also, the code didn't clear using my UltraGuage.
