They didn't find anything that we didn't already know. They spent the majority of the investigation trying to convince me that there must have been more keys for the truck than the two that I had. They went as far as sending agents to Oklahoma to ask the previous owners about the keys. It felt like they were trying to find their exit from the claim and more focused on that than focused on what actually happened.

So ya, factory alarm somehow bypassed and same with the chip. From talking to the alarm shop (I might be a sucker to the sales guy), the route I will take is Viper two way alarm with smart start. The two way requires the key fob to send a return signal so they can't read your code if hiding near by. The alarm also has a starter kill which is supposed to be better than the key chip. The installer was explaining that if you purchased a viper alarm on Amazon right now for a remote start, that they come with a box that defeats the chip key in order for the remote start to work. They used to have to program the alarm with the key code, but now the alarms just defeat it with no programing because it's easier to install... So all of this (about $800), a re-key because the investigators focused on keys (just in case) and a steering wheel club or lock of some kind will go in the truck. Might put a Spot devise in it too hidden away for tracking just in case.

Thanks for the update. Very interesting indeed. As I recall it was a quick theft so they could have a vehicle to commit other crimes. It seems it would have taken a lot of work to steal your truck before. Hopefully now the only way they can get it is to tow it!

I can't believe they sent agents to the previous owner to ask about the keys. That's wild. I work in a "recovery" department so we deal with a lot of insurance companies. Anything from people setting their cars on fire when they find out we're coming to repo, stolen vehicles being crashed, etc. Its a hot mess. I'm glad that I'm not the one calling 15 insurance agencies a day to figure out what's happening with our collateral.

I'm still in shock that USAA treated you like that, I've always heard the best things about them. Sorry about your situation. :(

About to get resprayed today. The shop doing the body work isn't messing around. They are respraying everything but to roof. Front bumper, front fenders, grill, good and tailgate all sprayed off the truck. Hard to tell in the pic, but the bed is pulled back so they can get all around the cab and bed.

That's the RIGHT way to paint any vehicle. Totally detrim all the emblems, moldings, etc. I've seen some shop leave moldings on and then tape over them. When they remove the tape, your see paint and overspray on the parts.

Got the truck back Tuesday afternoon! Paint and body work is great. Looks like a new truck. There are a few issues that need to be addressed. They are putting new seat covers on in two weeks when they get in from Toyota and they promised to address any other issues I find when I bring it back in.

I will post more details in my build thread I started. But I figured this was good closure for this thread. Now it is all here, start to finish. Thanks TW for the support, laughs and everything else you guys have done to help me through this shit sandwich. You guys are the best!!!

    Appreciate it guys!!!!

This pic is already out of date haha. Put some of my LED pod mounts on it with some amber Apex pods. Gunna start doing a lot of work to the truck, rock sliders in the next couple weeks with a new design I have been working on. I am so happy to have a truck to tool on again!!!

Good to see it is now going in the right direction. Interesting that they painted the whole truck except the roof. You would think that it would be easier to just include that, instead of having to tape it off. How much could they save by doing that. Anyway, regardless, it looks great and I hope you can put this behind you and enjoy the truck again.

No closure on them... I'm sure they will get caught doing one of the many stupid things they did in my truck or in someone else car...
