Pfft....where's the adventure in that?!? Buy the tent, go camping, show up an hour after dark, take the tent out of the box and try to figure it out then and there!

Thankfully I knew how to hang my hammock. Arrived at 10pm. In hammock by 11. But woke up to this... Flashes of Red Dawn raced thru my head.

NG training? I've run into them from time to time. I guess MT's terrain/climate is similar to Afghanistan so they did a lot of predeployment training here.
Was out in my 1st gen one day, came around a corner to find two columns of armed/camo'd guys walking out of the mountains. They parted ways, kneeled, and let me pass. Felt very self conscious ...and a bit asshole-ish as I kicked up a lot of dust.

    Rotomold coolers.

We picked up this little thing at REI recently. https://www.amazon.com/Stanley-10-01936-001-Adventure-Cooler-30QT/dp/B0159W9QO4

It is smaller than the RTIC and YETI versions. But so is its price tag.
It held ice and cold foods incredibly well for over 48 hours. Very little melting of bagged ice. Our butter was rock hard the whole trip. Beer was frigid cold.
Now... Temps weren't above 90. And we made an effort to keep it out of direct sun. For some, size will be the drawback. But for just two of us for two nights out, it is perfect.

This is NF land. Public use land. But its directly behind and borders Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center.
As many times as we've been here, never seen a soul. That's why we go!
This weekend... Not so much. And both mornings....

We all know one can never return a tent to its natural habitat (bag).

Just a bunch of old crap
Now that Whitney and the south 40+ of miles of the JMT are done this year, it's time to plan next year's trip. I have a 123.5 mile section of the JMT right in the middle that I need to knock off in order to join the two completed sections together. Here's the tentative itinerary for sometime probably mid July to start:
    • JMT northbound from Bullfrog Lake (Kearsarge Pass from Onion Valley to join up) - 7.5 extra miles to hit the JMT
    • Nobo on the JMT through to Agnew Meadow for 123.5 miles, exiting at Shadow Lake
    • Resupply at Muir Trail Ranch
If my luck strikes, and I can get a permit for Tuolumne to Happy Isles (or reverse), then I'll finish that last 28 miles while I'm out there and finally complete the entire JMT. Time just didn't allow me to take a month off of work to do the whole thing at once.

A truck tipped over today on Big Oak Flat Road. That fucked some shit up. Went all the way around via 140. Did see a lake though!

Flying home now, really enjoyed my time at YOSE event though it was fairly limited. Didn't do anything crazy, but my buddy freaking RAN Half Dome in about 6 hours including the cables and time on top. Freak.

It was also great meeting @Cuffs and her great husband!!!

Good photos in a few days.
