This truck has been problematic and a huge disappointment. The transmission seems to always be confused about what gear to be in even after having a new cam shaft sensor installed and upgraded software. First time getting into some mud it got stuck and crawl mode was of no help in getting unstuck. I have photos to show this was not an extreme mud bog. This truck is a lemon in my book. Toyota should recall this model and start over with a better design with less computer crap.

Im suppose to pick up my new Tacoma tomorrow. Really concerned with all the transmission problems. Have you taken yours in after they came out with the new software update. I called my dealer and he said it doesn't affect all VINs but maybe yours is one.

I can't imagine one of the Lemon Law qualifications is "got stuck in mud pit."

I had to tow it into the dealer after it died in the middle of an intersection and would not restart. They said it was due to the camshaft sensor failing as well as having been shipped from the factory with low transmission fluid. They installed new upgraded sensor and updated the software. It still seems to have trouble deciding what gear to be in. It lags and I have to press hard on the gas pedal to get it to make up its mind. And just today the master sensor lit up on the dash display with no message as to why its on. Also, when I drop off a passenger the seatbelt alarm doesnt recognize that there is none in the the seat anymore so I have to turn off the engine and restart to cancel it. For spending $40,000 on a work truck, I'm highly disappointed in this product from Toyota.

The new truck is garbage. The 2nd gets are much better.

Did you not test drive before you bought it? I don't see how your truck is a lemon from a faulty sensor....

...^^^... This just seems weird that you unload all the threads into 1 experience

Did you test drive the truck and you didn't notice any of these problems.

I have had 10-12 Toyota trucks and never experienced your troubles in 1 experience.

How long of a period did these things happen and how old is your truck ?

My experiences have been good so far with the Gen. 3.

Ahhh the pleasures of having a minimally computerized old truck.

Sorry about your issues, but welcome to TW anyway. Hope the dealer gets this crap resolved so you can enjoy your truck.

I bought this truck in December 2015. It had 16 miles on it. I did test drive it for about 20 minutes and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Of course, I've never owned a Tacoma before and had to spend time behind the wheel to get a feel for how it handles compared to my previous truck (03 Ranger). I have always wanted to own a Tacoma because of the great reputation that Toyota Tacoma's have. . It broke down 2 months ago due to the faulty sensor causing the transmission fluid to overheat. I had read about other owners having issues with the low transmission fluid levels as well as shifting issues between 3rd and 4th gears. With all the technology incorporated into this 3rd gen truck's engine and that it is supposed to learn my driving habits I assumed that the shifting issues would improve as I got more milage on it. My Tacoma has 8,000 + miles on it now. It has a new sensor and updated software for improving the transmission issue, yet the problem continues.

I still have my 2004 1st Gen. I've been watching these posts for a while now. 80,000 miles and not a single issue. Best of luck with your truck. The 3rd gen posts seem to cover just about every issue. Hope you get everything figured out.
