STEP BY STEP PROCESS FOR A HOOD SCOOP FOR THE TRD SUPERCHARGER
THIS IS FOR TACOMA HOODS 1995-2000 WITH DETAILED HELP FOR A FUNCTIONAL SCOOP FOR THE SUPERCHARGER, NOT JUST PHOTOS,
My friend Jerome with grinder and welder in hand

IF YOU DONT WANT A FUNCTIONAL SCOOP YOU CAN DO THIS SAME
PROJECT WITHOUT CUTTING INTO THE TACOMA HOOD AND COULD PROBABLY
TACK WELD THE 4RUNNER SCOOP TO THE TACOMA HOOD INSTEAD

2000-2004 I think the hoods were DIFFERANT a little, but probably close to the same

Well I finally made time before winter to start this project.
This project has always intimidated me a bit because I could not find a detailed
build of this project, so for those that are on the fence I hope this helps.
    Here goes:
There are other easier hood scoops to install but I think
the 2000 4Runner hood scoop with the bulge has the best look,
and I want to have 2 fiberglass Inserts, one funtional for summer to cool
off the supercharger that is completely opened and another one that is closed for the winter.
The fiberglass scoop mouth insert has 4 bolts that hold it in place and can
be swapped out in 5 minutes, So I like this option.
Ok so I could not find a 2000 4Runner hood scoop local so
went to usedcarparts .com and found one 1000 miles away.
I call the junk yard and they said they would cut the major
part of the hood, the center part out with the scoop and frame work and ship it for 150.00 total with ups.
So got the hood last week and now it's time to make it happen.
On this project have patients and take your time.
Measure 3 times and cut once.
First step is to mark off the area of the 4Runner scoop that will be cut.
Use the windshield wiper spray nozzles holes as your guide markers
as they are in the same place on both hoods, a great reference way to center
    your project.
Now get the grinder out and cut the 4Runner scoop out, the top skin only,
Make those lines as straight as possible because you will be grafting the pattern
that you cut onto the Tacoma hood.
After you cut the skin part of the hood scoop out grind down all the burrs on the edges
and the center the scoop on the Tacoma hood. Use the reference of the windshield holes
to line and center the scoop. Now mark out the pattern on the Tacoma hood.
Get the grinder with cutting wheel and skin out the top hood sheet metal for the Tacoma.
Next place the scoop into the cut out section of the Tacoma hole. Use the grinder to get the scoop to fit into the Tacoma hood as exact as possible. Start on one corner and work your way around the scoop feathering in each side of the scoop metal for an exact fit.
Now it's time to tack weld the pieces together, start on the back corner with a tack weld
and work your way around using a welding vice grip type clamp
to make each weld flush. Remember the metal is thin and go slow.
Once done grind the tack welds down flush.
Decided to tack weld an inch at a time all the way around the scoop with mig welder because the flange tool was bending, warping, up the seams to much
and used fiberglass bondo filler for added strength.
Ok so the scoop is now welded in, yea,
With this done now we need to cut and weld the scoop bracket support
and the fiberglass scoop insert support bracket.
With the scoop welded into the fitted position it's now easy
to figure out the support bracket, the locations to cut.
Cut the frame section of the Tacoma hood as shown first, you can do this before or after the scoop is welded in and then
piece the 2 support sections from the 4 runner hood into the Tacoma hood.
Again take your time and trim down to the size you need on both these
    support sections,
Make sure the fiberglass scoop section is in the hood scoop being held by that PLACTIC tab
and screw to make sure the support bracket is lined up before the bracket
is welded in for a perfect fit.
Again the metal is thin so go slow.
Weld in the 2 brackets and bolt in the fiberglass section to make sure everything is lined up,
Now get a tube of panel type caulking and caulk all the areas that are between the
hood skin and the hood frame including the new bracket area between the skin and hood frame. Now done with the first part.
This part took about 3 to 4 hours to do FYI.
TODAY will get some more done and update

Is this a functional hood scoop? If so, now the taco guys can run top mount intercoolers!

Yes, it will be funtional, I will still use the fiberglass scoop insert and black screen to keep debris out, but will chop off the back section behind the screen of the fiberglass insert so all the air will go directly to
    the supercharger.

That's coming out so clean! Did you use a mig to weld it with? Did you run tac welds all the way around it or lay beads down once you had it tacked in place?

Thanks, it was a hard call, was going to use the flange tool and tried it on the hood but it bent up the metal seam too much.. The problem with the hood skin is its dam thin, so decided against the flange tool and against a bead all the way around the scoop because of warping potential.
My buddy Tack welded it an inch at a time all the way around the scoop with No warping or bending issues instead for a super clean fit, Yes used a mig welder and
used fiberglass bondo filler for added strength. So far it's coming out really really sweet
