No they wouldn't. This is the second generation in a row that Toyota has had problems with bad frames. They did a half assed "fix" and called it good. Customer service never even asked the have a dealer look at the truck before they told me there was nothing to be done. The 6 spd tranny is a pos as well. I have been nursing that along for a couple of years now. I have no need of a company that will not stand behind their product.

If I was in this guys shoes, I would feel the same way. It sounds like he did what he was supposed to, brought the truck in, they sprayed the frame, told him he was good, and sent him on his way. Granted, a vehicle isn't supposed to last forever, nor should the company be on the hook for repairs after warranty, especially in the salt belt, but people should expect to get more than 8-10 years out of a Toyota. I mean it's essentially a pile of parts if the frame is junk. It's a $14,000 job to replace it.

I lucked out, and had mine replaced. If they told me they were going to put the goop on the frame, it would have gotten traded in the same day.

Agreed, if done right, the welded patch or brace will be the strongest part of the frame. The frame itself is maybe only .125" thick.

If you had a unibody car and after 10 years rust holes started appearing in the floor pan, subframes, side sills or rocker panel, what would you do? There would be no such thing as frame replacement. You'd go to a body shop, spend $400-$800 and have them cut out the rusted section(s) and weld in filler plates, then spray primer/paint/undercoating as applicable.

Welding on the frame is nothing new. And most shops can do better welds than the factory robotic welds...

I have an 01 Corolla that is a unibody. Guess what less rust on the entire car than on the frame of my taco. Also there is literally no other rust on the truck. Not on any door seams not on any quarter panels. Toyota f'd up in the frame. It's simple. Cousin has a Silverado same year about same mileage can't put my finger through his frame and his frame still has paint on it. Not gonna throw good money away on a pos. Fix one spot on the frame and another will rust through next year.

^My Subaru is rusting worse than my Tacoma, despite being a year newer and having half the miles. :notsure: Bolts attaching braces to the floorpan are already unrecognizable and would need a torch to remove. Similar experiences with previous vehicles in the family (Mazda Millenia, Dodge Caravan) after the same number of years.

The frames were supplied by Dana corp. Toyota sued them for the repairs of the frames, to pay for frame replacements on affected trucks.. Dana corp has since gone out of business.

That's not exactly how it went down. Dana corp went into bankruptcy in 2009 amid problems with the Big Three around the same time. They sold the frame mfg plants to Metalsa as part of the bankruptcy. So the same mfg plants that made 2005-2008 frames continued making 2009+ frames for Tacomas and for the Big Three. Of course coating processes continuously evolve for correcting problems, cutting cost, and meeting new enviro regs.

Dana corp remained in business making driveshafts and axles for everybody.

Your right that they didnt go completely out of business. My main point is they produced the faulty frames and had to pay up and ended up in the shitter because of it.
