Lightforce Auxillary Lighting

the 240's will not fit side by side that is why they are like the way i had them.

 

Funny you bring that up - I was wondering where the line in the sand was around here - I frequent a number of Fly Fishing forums and even the avatar I have posted here is something that would be frowned upon in most....more family orientated I suppose. When I didn't get smoked with a warning from a moderator here for using it, I sort of got a better sense for exactly where you all draw that line. And yeah - when I posted that above comment, those exact thoughts went through my mind. I've been around long enough I can handle my own and take some heat - and I can return the favour with the best of 'em. This community feels like it has fun with its members but doesn't get overly abused, which is nice. You gotta' be able to laugh at yourself every now and again.
Anyways....your point is noted - thanks for the heads up,....er, I mean warning.

Have a bar on order and am in the process of seeking out a welder to add/modify/adjust tab placement if required. Just finalizing package pricing for the lighting components and we're off. Bar should be here by months end, and lights etc should be 1-2 weeks behind that.

Next question for the Lightforce users :
When it comes to the polycarbonate clip on lense covers, which of the two blues is the superior general purpose version ? They offer two blue ones to choose from - snow blue, and crystal blue. Anyone have experience with one or the other ??? I have zero experience with this colour as an auxillary lighting source, so I have no clue how it performs under various conditions.

The last idea I had was to get a Grille Craft insert and mount a pair of Hella 500FF lights behind the grille. I saw that on a few trucks and it looks good. I would have to add some reinforcement to prevent the lights from shaking.

 

Seen photos of that type of set up and it's clean - that's for certain.
Always wondered how much light one lost through the slats of the grille on such an application however. Didn't seem a smart way to do it if max light output was the goal, ...but right back to being really really clean.

 

you don't loose much light with the grill craft, but the hella 500's suck for light anyway. just finished converting my 170's to 55watt hid and damn they are bright.

it is not a lightforce kit, i bought the kit from oz from a company on ebay about 6 months ago. just lazy. lightforce only sells the 35w hid.

 

Lights and associated hardware/accessories all sitting in the shop for the past week waiting for the #%*&'n bar to arrive. Ended up having to re-order through a different distributor after getting the run around and a different excuse each time with the original outfit for over 4 weeks.
In the mean time, have been working on plans to modify the tabs on the bar in order to allow me to run the 240s in the middle and have the 170s out on the shoulders and have come up with a security feature to shield the nuts on the bolts for the lamps so no one will be walking off with these things intact.
( my gawd,....those XGT 240s are big )

you know lightforce sells the security nuts, you need a special tool to take them off.

Got 4 of those here already - I'm designing beyond that after reading forums based in Australia where these are made and have a significant following. Despite the security nuts, they're ( the lamps ), still remarkably easy to remove - a zip disc on a cordless grinder and someone has free lights in under 30 seconds. If I'm surrendering mine to some after midnight low life, I'll feel slightly smug knowing they won't be able to mount them easily. Just the old "ounce of prevention" addage.....that, and dealing with insurance is a p.i.t.a.

 

that was the only thing i did not like about them, i had two security locks on each light, one for the base and one for the adjuster part but you can still turn the can right off. that is why i have hella 4000 hid's now.

 

Took considerably longer than I had planned ( and hoped ) for, but at least all the gear's here and assembled. Still have to iron out the final plans for the anti-theft mods to the bar, but at least I have light.


Still playing with getting just the right angles and focal lengths set, but holy freakin retinal damage...............these things throw serious light. It was hard finding a straight stretch of road long enough to actually see how far they really go and get everything dialed in.

looks good, i had the same problem you did with finding a long enough road. they say they go like 2 miles.
