I know that the info is out there, but there is so much that I have a hard time figuring out what to order. I am looking for a list of things(specific name, or part number of product if possible). I just need the basic stuff(mitt, soap, towel). I would like to place a order with chemicalguys or autogeek and just get the stuff coming. So, if you think you could help me prevent scratching and swirls in my black paint, please let me know what to order. Thanks in advance. I really dont want to buy the wrong stuff at local auto parts store.

Pick up a quality soap, 2 bucket wash system, good microfiber drying towels, detail spray for drying aid, and some towels for any excess detail spray.

Well if you read the OP's post, he said he was going to order the #1 items from this thread. The post he is referring to was posted May 2008. Thanks for taking the time to read the link and his post.

Did you look at the first post in the sticky? Where the poster listed the #1 items. Those are the items he was talking about buying which is from 2008. All I was saying is those are older items that are a good place to start but there have been several items introduced since the 2008 original post. Been a lot of advancement in detailing products since 2008. :D

Lol. Well you have to do something. All in the wash method.

If you're going to place an order from Autogeek, this will be your best bet for a basic wash-dry-wax.

I think one of the most important things is using high quality microfibers for drying. The Rag Company Eagle Edgeless are nice for detailing spray or spray wax application (also for waterless/rinseless washing). Any of the Rag Co Korean towels will do you well. If you want to go all Autogeek, their gold plush and supreme 530's are towels are nice, too.

I like Meguiars Gold Class soap. It's basic. No wax in it, which I prefer, and it leaves your paint feeling "conditioned". The Duragloss is a good one too.

Also of importance, use a drying aid. Wolfgang Uber Rinseless concentrate is awesome stuff and can be diluted for a variety of uses. Super slick and glossy. Griots Speed Shine is nice, but I like the Uber better.

And as ace mentioned- read up on the two bucket wash method. In short, you rinse your mitt in a separate bucket after touching the paint and before it goes back into the "soap bucket".

So would I add the rinseless drying aid to my soap? Assuming I was going to rinse.

Nope. If you use it after a wash, You just spray it on with a spray bottle when you're done washing (before drying with a towel). It helps lubricate the surface for the towel. You could invest in a leaf blower to reduce the need to dry with a towel. Blow 90% of the water off, then just blot the remaining water drops.

    Note:
A rinseless wash is an additional wash method (in addition to the two bucket method). You use a premixed high lubricity solution from a bucket and there is no need to rinse. Google it if you want to learn more-- people have varying preferences on how to use this method.

Just something to keep in mind...the more "touchless" washing you can do, the better. But that depends on your area and what you're driving the truck through. You're going to put minor scratches or swirls in the paint almost every time you touch it. It just comes down to minimizing those blemishes and avoiding etching from contaminants.

I do like the idea of using a leaf blower. Also, A rinseless two bucket could be nice(I could wash in my garage if I wanted to).

I think it should also be noted that, if you choose to use one, your leaf blower should be ELECTRIC, not gas powered.
