Here's the finished product. Still might do a few more coats. The SR5 logo needs to be done too.

I actually got it from a guy who brought it from Oregon but kept it as his "rental car" when he would go there to visit his vacation home. Always garaged. Not sure who had it before him but it was 1 other guy.

It's got 185k. Glad you like it! I'm stoked on the dip.

Wooo! Finally dipped my badges. Not sure if I have much new to add but I'll reiterate what everyone has said already:

    - Clean the badges first.
    - Tape off a smallish area around the badge, and use paper to protect anything else from overspray.
    - Spray! I used 5 coats, most of them pretty light, with 15 minutes between each.
    - Peel! I waited 1 hour after the last coat, ripped off the paper, then peeled off the excess. Used a toothpick to help get the insides of the A and O clean.

This is my first external "mod" and I'm super happy with it - wish I'd done it sooner.

Anyone plastdip anything and then remove it a few months/years down the road? Any staining or residue? Planning on plastidipping my emblems and just want to make sure there isn't any staining down the road if I want to remove it.

If you're removing it, why are you worried stains?
It lives outside, of course there is going to be some weathering, if you want something more durable try powder coat. On the other hand my rims are still black... 3+ years!

How did it come off? I currently have my chrome surround plasti'd white and think I could peel and do a better job sometime.

If you sprayed alot, so it's nice and thick it will peel off in one big sheet.. if not... respray it a few more coats, let dry then peel.

I'm talking about staining the actual chrome or paint. Not the plastidip.

Turned out pretty great! Tried to show some before, during, and after. I used about 8 coats, 5 min apart. I found that there is a "sweet spot" to removing the plastdip. Try too early and it kind of just makes a mess, too late and you get rough edges that are a pain in the ass to clean up. But otherwise I love how it turned out. Definitely worth the hour and a half and $10.IMG_7362.jpg IMG_7366.jpg

Side emblems look bad ass black... now it's time to get black side mirrors. Anyone know if they make covers you can slap on instead of painting the chrome?IMG_7374.jpg

That looks great!! What a difference!
Plastidip haters can say whatever they want.
Real paint chips and then is a real bitch to strip and repaint. Plastidip definitely has its place.
