I did find a highly rated drive line shop that will change the carrier bearing, straighten and balance the shaft for $225.00 turnkey.

FYI the fuel filter on first gens (1995-2004) is NOT 'in the tank', I know this for a fact as I changed mine out myself on my 2004 Tacoma 3.4l v6. It's located driver's side on the inside of the frame rail behind the driver's seat.

I believe on the 2nd gen Tacomas it's inside the fuel tank.

edit, @Sicyota04 beat me to it.

Also, it's super easy to do and it shouldn't cost you more than a half hour's worth of labor to have someone do it if you provide the filter. Maybe $50 or so.

I've taken my own parts into a few different Toyota dealerships and they've never had a problem with it; I've brought my own spark plugs, fuel filter and clutch before.

If I were near you (I'm in California), I'd raise my hand to help you :( The "hardest" job on your list is probably the head gasket. The most annoying part is the valve cover gasket replacement since you have to take so many plenums off. The most tedious would be the drum brakes. God, that was a brat when I did them. Just did my mom's drums on her '00 Civic LX this past weekend but they were MUCH easier, still tedious, though. What are you looking to spend on all this, if you don't mind my asking?

What makes you think you have to have all this work done? What are the symptoms?

Pandito, I don't think it is the head gasket leaking but it is probably the valve cover gasket. I have another quote coming today. If it is another loser, I am going to try to do most of the work myself. That is if I can find a strong helper.

I have $1800.00 budgeted for the work but if I also need head gaskets that will stop everything. I don't have any of the symptoms other than a leak above the exhaust manifold.

Have you checked Auto MasterTech on 29 near Sugarloaf? My buddy used to use them all the time and always had good results.

I did get an estimate from them and they said no problem with my parts. They have had my truck for a few days and I hope to get it back this coming week. Including the drive line, I should come in right around my budget. That is if they don't find any problems.

I contacted Toyotechs twice by email. I did send them my list for an estimate but they seemed reluctant to use my parts.
The folks at Auto MasterTech seem very warm and fuzzy. They called me to explain that the rotors I supplied were wrong (courtesy of the jerks at Auto Anything). I reordered new rotors from EBC and delivered them last week. The folks at Auto MasterTech were very patient and supportive!

    I have my fingers crossed.

Toyotechs are a great shop. But also guess I see where they are coming from. Some places adjust their labor and parts prices to work together and if you take out one then it suddenly doesn't pay to do it. Also I know from working at shops that it's sketchy to install customer supplied parts because if you have to warranty it then it becomes a hassle and it's hard to convince people it was their cheap parts(not saying you went cheap) that failed and not their work. I think a lot of shops want to avoid that hassle and to turn down the cheap asses trying to save money by buying their own parts (again not saying that's you, I know your situation is different). I haven't heard anything bad about anything auto so if they are willing to work with you then I say go with it.

I understand that point of view and I don't blame them. "Auto Anything" is the online supply store that I bought the original rotors from. They gave me the wrong rotors! They picked the numbers not me. Because of the time lapse, I am stuck with the original rotors. Their error is pretty pricey for someone on a very modest fixed income. Sour grapes.....you bet.

I got my truck back from "Auto Master Tech" garage. What a difference!!! With the new shocks, the truck sits higher but corners MUCH better. The wobbles are gone and braking is superb. Only thing left to do is the carrier bearing and finding a deal on a sway bar for the rear end. I did a fluid and filter change (not a flush) on the auto tranny with Amsoil.....no problems.....will do it again in 500 miles. Brake fluid, power steering fluid, fuel filter, differential fluid, antifreeze. Everything was flushed and or changed. It is a testament to Toyota that after 140,000 miles with zero maintenance, the truck was still in good shape. I plan to keep this truck til death. At that time, my ashes will be sprinkled inside and I will continue my travels as a passenger.

I am giving a double thumbs up for Auto Master Tech in Lawrenceville, GA.
