Started my 5 speed auto (A750) swap and 4runner multi mode transfer case.

I don't have a shop, so on the trailer I'll work.

A750 and multi mode case mocked up.

I'm going to have to figure out how to customize the shifter.. please excuse my shifter hole.... Mistakes where made...

I thought I had lucked up getting the only 4runner a750 with a dipstick (2003) but it doesn't clear the firewall or brake lines.. I'll likely switch to a non dipstick pan..

Well... I haven't made the progress I wanted, and that is largely impart to my absolute lack of fabrication skills... Saturday, I'll be bringing in an expert to help me with my cross member.

I have made a little progress in the front driveshaft department. My stock 4cyl auto driveshaft would just barely reach, but the splines where within an half an inch of falling apart. I bought a 1.25" (biggest I could get) driveshaft spacer from low range off-road. That helped, but splines where still visible. I found a 99' limited front shaft on eBay for 70$, and figured it was worth a shot. It ended up being 1" longer than the shaft I already have, but now no splines are visible.

I didn't think to put the stock 97 4runner shaft I have in the line up for comparison, but it only measured 26-27"s. Way too short.

4ruuner shaft, and spacer installed. If you look closely at the slip yoke, you can see the shinny part. That's how much extra the shaft is extended over where it had been running in its previous life.

I've also started to convert my wiring notes to something usable. I'm about 1/3 of the way done with my adapter harness....

Looking great. I just picked up a 2uzfe from a 2005 tundra from a fellow member and local to me guy.
You seem to be one of the rare guys who wants the v8 and good stuff just like me
Can I pm you to ask some questions. I know its not identical (if anything mine is easier as its a 2nd gen tacoma) but thought it might help with swap parts and stuff.

Well.. after 2 weeks of struggling I gave in and found a professional fabricator. I had full confidence he could do the job, but this cross member is beautiful. It makes me ashamed of what I had "built"..

Wow that almost looks factory. The ends should be capped and then painted, but I'd bet nobody would ever know lol

Originally, the plan was to cap the ends, but since there are holes in the middle for the transmission mount, he left the ends open to make spraying mud and other junk out easy.

The shifter might need a little more fine tuning, but it's really close.

Great project! I'm in the process of swapping mine now and struggling with the wiring aspect. Mind if I pick your brain? Just got done rebuilding it and hopefully pull the 3.4 next weekend.

Well, progress has been unexpectedly slow. I'm waiting on some electrical parts... I'm pretty much just fiddling with some small stuff.

I have my 4wd system all but finished. I'm waiting on some slick little relay holders, and I can finish up that (black wires in picture).

I am also waiting for my Immobiliser ecu, engine ecu, and the dash plugs to return. Hopefully when they arrive, they will be programmed together. Then I can finish my adapter harness...

I pulled my tcase and the extension housing off my transmission and they are at the "fab shop". Back a few pages you can see the gap that needed to be addressed. A partial adapter is being built to remedy that.

I also need to finish plumbing my transmission cooler. I have lost the fitting that screw to the radiator... No biggie right? Well apparently the fittings are the most odd ball size (M12 - 1.25), because nobody has them. I called the radiator manufacturer and they are going "see if they can scrape a pair up" for me... If not, off to have fittings welded to the radiator.

Once the above is done, I'll still need to figure out my exhaust, and have a new rear driveshaft made, plus a host of other little stuff I'm forgetting...

My adapter harness. Minus 3 plugs and a few hours of work..
