If that's the correct terminology. My gaming PC currently resides in a common room, and I wish to relocate it to my own Room. My room does not have any existing Ethernet jacks so I'd be running a whole new line to the room, most likely through the attic as the house sits on a solid slab. I've built 2 Pc's so I'd like to think I'm not totally tech illiterate but have never tried to set up a connection from scratch. I do have an old phone/cable jack that isn't connected to anything anymore, so I wouldn't have to make new holes in the wall to put in the outlet.

Is this something I have a chance of getting right or should I be looking to hire somone to get the work done?

I did this exact thing a few years ago, got tired of crappy signal from my USB WiFi antenna. Honestly the hardest thing is fishing the cable up/down the wall. I used a cable snake like this:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000...able+snake&dpPl=1&dpID=415dCPCVVBL&ref=plSrch

Since you already have phone cable going there you could even duct tape the Cat5 cable to the old phone line & pull it thru that way. If you can tie your shoe laces you can handle this :fistbump:. Beware of slipping off the attic studs!

I would (and have) just bought a cat 5 crimper and a box of cat six cable. I went crazy and made custom cables for EVERYTHING. Modem to router, router to other router, other router to Nas.... Most of my house is hard wired now.

Aux back up lights, Bed lights, Re-located trailer plug, Good dooby, a.k.a. jumper cable mod, Heated seats, back up camera,
Speeds, cat 5, cat 6, are achieved a lot though cable geometry. The number of twists in the pairs. The way the pairs themselves are twisted together. That being said, don't pull around corners, no hard turns.
