I believe this would be because Trac, vsc, and abs, while on, do not offer corrections when in a reverse gear.

I've heard good things here about Red Line, but maybe others can chime in. I don't have any personal experience with it yet

I put the redline stuff in. Seems to slip into gears a tiny bit easier but that could've easily been fresh fluid vs fancy redline stuff and it's only moderately noticeable.

Noted thank you ! Synchro mesh and red line. I'll probably get the stealership to flush it and fill so it's all "on warranty" then back a bit out when I get home - enough for the additive.
Unless there is a marked improvement after the flush. Then I'll just keep it all OEM.
Funny @tacoTRDNole that's exactly what feels just a little off on mine... the dam synchro s...

Brought mine home today. Seem to have the worst luck with dealers however. This time the finance guy went on a tangent when trying to get me to buy the extended warranty. Started with referencing how a rear wiper assembly for the 4Runner could cost as much as 1500, when that didnt work he started going off about how many 3rd gens have been in for repairs and then said his coworker's had been in already 3 times. He finished by tossing 3 papers of repair cost break downs which he "conveniently" had at his desk. He said "heres one from a new Tacoma", tossed it to me, guess he didnt expect me to read it since it was for a camry. Either way all of the papers he had were for vehicles all within the 3 year part of their warranties.

It was really odd that someone selling a Toyota would basically say their product is crap. :der:

Yup. Reason why those guys make 125 000 + a year. Banks and Corporate pay them huge to sell their product....

They did that to me when I bought my Tacoma, I said "what, it's a Tacoma now you're telling it's gonna break? Maybe I'll get a Chevy" and squirmed in my chair.

That's exactly how I felt... But hey, now we can beat the shit out of the truck and never worry about all the tech that is so prevalent in modern vehicles these days.

I'm a manual transmission fan with a new '16 Double Cab TRD Off-Road in white.

The dealer looked at me like I was from another planet when I said I wanted a manual, but that's what I want.

My previous truck (an '03 Ranger) was a manual and I loved it until I out grew it and put over 200k miles on it (and it still ran when I sold it!).

Seems quite a few complain about stop and go traffic. I live in the L.A. area (and we have some of the worst traffic in the country) and all I can say is that bumper to bumper traffic on the 101, 405, 5, 710, 105 etc has never bothered me in a manual transmission car. After over 25 years of driving manual, I don't even realize I'm shifting anymore...it's just instinct.

Oh, my other car is also a manual, but that one only has 4 gears. I should upgrade that one soon.

Hi. First time poster. I'm about to buy a Tacoma after being Taco-less for four sad years. I want a manual Off Road. The dealers I've contacted are telling me it will take months to get one.

In a perfect world, I would want a long bed double cab off road. Do such beasts exist? If so, will it really take 4-5 months to get as one rep told me about the short bed double cab?

Lastly, I read in another forum here the that the 2nd gen manuals actually got worse mileage than the automatic versions due to the fact that the top gear was too low, causing RPMs to top out around 2700 at highway speed. How is mileage on the 3rd generation manuals compared to autos?

How long did it take you to get your truck? Was it special order?

It was a dealer trade from Hamer Toytota to West Coast Toyota in Long Beach, CA. They told me that the previous week a customer wanted a manual and they had to get it from Arizona. The Toyota in Cerritos, CA had a couple of manuals but they were Access Cab and I wanted 4 doors. So I had the truck pretty much the next day.

I really wish that the manuals weren't 4 wheel drive only. I would have been fine with a 2WD V6 Tacoma if it was manual. Would have been cheaper too. Don't really need 4WD for the desert.

At about 80 MPH I'm doing about 2700 RPM. Maybe a little less. I don't think that's outrageous considering it's a heavy ass truck with a relatively small engine, so needs to be in a better RPM range. Also, my Ranger used to do the same but it was a gutless 3.0 liter (gutless, but indestructible) so it needed the RPM.

I don't think the MPG is all that bad considering my previous vehicles were the '03 Ranger (sitting high on 33's and Camburg suspension) and a '05 Nissan Murano which both got around 18 MPG average city/highway driving. Maybe the Nissan did a little better. I traded the Nissan for the Tacoma.

Sure, it can take that long if they submit an allocation request, but it may take less time. If you need a truck right now you may have to settle for something you don't really want that's sitting on a local lot.

No double cab long bed is offered with a manual. You can have a DCLB AT or a DCSB 6MT in the Off Road package but that's as close as you get to DCLB 6MT. I've heard of a couple people waiting more than a couple months, but that seems to be the exception. I waited 2 months, seems like most people are getting it done quicker than that.

No, in Canada the OR is limited to only AC and that's it regardless of transmission.

3rd gen manuals (V6) have a 4.30 rear end vs the 3.91 in the auto. This does indeed lead to lower economy in the manual, runs out at approx 2000 RPM @ 60 MPH in 6th in stock configuration.
