Just joined this forum as it's been a useful source of info in my search for the ideal Tacoma.

In my earlier life I owned a 1991 Toyota Extra Cab V6 Pickup that I took everywhere. It was awesome! Unfortunately I had to give it up when I left the country. But I'm now back, with a family, hoping to get out there camping, fishing, hiking, away from the teeming masses. I live in BC, Canada, in the Fraser Valley.

So I am pretty much settled on a DCLB, used, 2004-10, hopefully around 150km for $15K or so. After that I'm not sure what else I should be looking for as there may not be further variation in the options.

    - I understand there is only one engine size: 4L V6
    - I understand DCLB only comes in Automatic. 5 or 4 I'm not sure.
    - I read on Wikepedia that TRD Offroad package is not offered for DCLB.
    - Is TRD Sport Level 1 and 2 offered?

I wouldn't mind a towing package (oil/tranny cooler), skid plates, and tow hook. Otherwise I'm pretty easy.

    Any tips would be appreciated.

    Cheerio

I had (now the wife's) a 2004 double-cab 4x4 with the TRD Off-Road package (USA, not BC though). The truck is great, so we added a 2015 Taco Pro and retired her VW Golf. It's a 4-speed automatic, with a button on the shifter to take it out of OD. There's a front tow hook and some other connect points if needed.

140,000 miles strong so far with no major issues. I've only replaced a couple sensors and thermostat. The truck has been in the mud, over sand dunes, in the woods, all over construction sites and on several long-haul highway trips. You shouldn't be disappointed at all, if you can find one before it's snagged up and shipped overseas (Middle East, that is).

Get a 2008 DCLB Sport , it will come with the tow package and you won't have to deal with VSC or Traction Control issues if you lift eventually

You probably mean 05-10. The 2004 is the same as my sig, a first gen. Which means no 4.0L V6 only 3.4L V6 (or 2.7 4cyl) and the smaller body style

Yeah, I've only been looking for a week but already seems like the supply is a bit limited. Still trying to get a feel for the market. I've got my craigslist alerts up, checking the auto-trader now and then. Should have the money side sorted out soon and then it's just waiting for the right one to pop up. So they ship them off to ME just like Kubota Tractors are shipped here when their best days are gone? If they ship used pickups anywhere, I would have thought India or Africa.

Thanks for the tip. Good to know.

    Also good to know. Thanks!

So after much searching I finally found a 2007 DCLB for the right price. It's non-TRD but that's okay. The guy was OCD with the maintenance so it's in great shape, but I got it checked out anyways. It will need some new tires next summer and under heavy braking I can feel some warp in the rotors. Already took it offroading a few times to go hiking and the long box meant the hitch grounded out on some waterbars, but that's the price you pay for a DCLB and I'm okay with that. I just bought a used aluminum wrap-around boat rack for $500, which needs to be extended over the cab, and I'm still debating if it needs any other mods. Just need a silver canopy to match now.

Quite a few extras. From the ad ...
