Had a 2000 gen1 in great shape and frame rust got me - long story short I bought a 2015 TRD OffRoad double cab to replace it. I think it will work out well for my needs in the next ten years or so.

Having said that - the rear seat headrests - do they come out? I'd like to pull them to get more visibility out back since I rarely have anyone in the back seats. Do they come out and I'm just not forcing them enough, or are they designed not to come out?

I remember seeing a video on how to easily keep your tailgate from being stolen - can someone share that link with me if you have it?

LED interior lights - any recommendations on LED lights for the dash header and the cabin overhead? My dash header lights don't come on when the door is opened, there is no switch to turn them on with the door - am I missing something or do they not turn on except for the cabin lights when the door is opened?

    Thanks in advance

The rear headrests in my 2014 come out. It did take a little more muscle than I was giving at first. I store them behind the rear seats. Nice looking truck!

    Nice truck.
The rear head rests are awful from my experiences. The are difficult to get out and i finally just took them out and left them out. One thing to look at as you struggle to get them out is are they installed backwards? If so, search for the thread that tells you how to use the release tab to get them out. You can tell if they are backwards by pulling the handle, if they try to lean back to the back of the truck, then they are installed backwards... search for the thread to release these.

Not sure about the interior LEDs, although i just installed MattGecko LED bed lights which work great.

Good luck with the new truck

Welcome to TW! Nice truck, looks like mine when I first got it.

Those headrests are usually removed in my truck. I keep them in the wells underneath the back seat. Mine also fold down which helps open up that line of visibility when I dont remove them.

If a "dash header" is your map lights, simply press the lens to turn them on individually. At least in my older 2nd gen.

My rear head rests easily slid up and out. They also fold down when not in use if you choose to go that route.

Nice Truck and good choice on the DC, I love mine.

Like other posters have commented, yes, the rear headrest remove. It does take some force and depending on if they are installed in the correct orientation (not backwards) you might have to squeeze the retainer tab at the top of the seat/bottom of the headrest support bar. Mine were difficult to get out when I put seat covers in about a week ago.

As for the lights, the dome light should have a switch on the light that is Off-On-Auto. Map lights are push button as mentioned here already.

I replaced my map lights and dome lights with LED's just about a week ago. I found them cheap on E-Bay but they are not very bright. If you are going that route of replacing them spend the coin for better ones if more light output is your goal. I wanted to find blue lights that would match my truck but was unable to find really bright ones in the color blue I was looking for.

The dome lights I put in were - http://www.ebay.com/itm/291244240391?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

I've seen 2 routes for keeping the tailgate more secure. You can use a hose clamp, just search the forum titles for hose clamp and it'll be one of the first results. Or you can buy a SaBellCo tailgate lock - I've got one and it seems pretty solid.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. Sounds like my rear headrests are in backwards, I think I saw something in the manual about getting them out. I just ordered the SaBellCo tailgate lock.

    Thanks again!

I read some people had issues getting the SaBellCo on; I applied some Remoil on the inside and it slid right on. Enjoy the truck!

Another little fun fact about the rear seats. Once the headrests are removed, flip the lower seat completely up, as if opening to get into the cubbies under the seat. Next pull out the back rest and lay them down. It converts into a big flat shelf.

This is a 2016, but its the same concept.
