So i won't have anything too fancy in here just yet. I'm selling my 05 base model regular cab and picking up an 06 DCSB Sport model tomorrow. And i loosely use the term build for this thread. It won't be nearly as impressive as most of the builds on here. This truck is my daily driver, camping vehicle, hauling vehicle, material getter for house repairs etc... So my additions to the truck will be mostly from a practical standpoint and to make better use of the truck. That sort of stuff. So i will be updating with pictures and a little more information once i have the truck home.

Here is an update. I picked up the truck Saturday morning and drove it home. This is my first automatic transmission in about 10 years...and its weird. i'm so used to a manual, i find it weird where the auto tranny in this truck decides to shift. i also now understand the 4.0 "tick" that i have read so much about. after cleaning it up, there are about 5 million rock chips that i was not able to see clearly when i first looked at the truck. thats gonna take some time to repair, some of them are down to metal and rusting. the 2 fender flares in the back look like they have been sand blasted in the front from all of the rock chips. i think it would be cheaper/easier to look for some used speedway blue fender flares for sale rather than try to fix these.

other than that, i like the truck overall. i find the extra 80hp noticeable from the 2.7 lol. although i think the 2.7 felt peppier with the 5 speed manual. it also doesnt weigh nearly as much, so not a far comparison.

anyways, my plans in the near future are a lot of maintenance stuff because i'm not sure when they were last done. i'm going to change the fluids in the front and rear diffs, transfer case, and transmission, grease the u joints, change the spark plugs, finish transferring everything from my red truck to this one, buy about 57 bottles of touch up paint, and buy and install the frame plug kit and get under the truck and top coat the new frame with some fluid film. oh, also figure out what is rattling on the exhaust.

    here are the pics:

old meets new for the first time

Very nice! Don't worry, I even have a build thread. So if I can have a build thread, so can you!

first "mod" complete. i took the mirror relocating bracket from my reg cab and installed in the new truck. after driving this one home with the standard review mirror, i was instantly reminded how much i hate the stock location...

i just got back in from lunch, and i noticed the driver's door pops when i open it. and then i found this...
    47710A8D-0A71-4D66-BA4C-0A6980926492_zps_c323f3f2e53e2351cc5dca65a95e474719a78faa.jpg

obviously a previous owner's repair. i looked on a couple of toyota parts breakdowns and i'm not sure if i can get just this piece by itself (the one the bolt is replacing), or if i have to buy the hole hinge. can anyone verify?

some very minor updates as i transfer stuff over from one truck to the other.

i plan on getting another bestop, that item won't move from one truck to the other (6 foot bed vs 5 foot bed). so i picked up a tonneau cover off of Craigslist for $100 to hold me over in the meantime so i can still keep things in the bed without worrying about rain.

These also showed up in the mail yesterday. i ordered the frame plug kit and a few extra body clips for the mud guards since most are missing on the back 2

Also ordered some fog light covers just like i had on the red one.

i de-badged the truck, still need to finish cleaning up the remaining goop.

i fixed my annoying exhaust rattle. 2 heat shields were held on by, hopes and dreams i guess, and i found a random exhaust clamp just chillin on the y pipe. just hanging out, rattling like crazy.

also changed the oil and greased up the u-joints. i also found out why my brakes suck so bad.

so im in the process of replacing pads and rotors on the red one so i can put her up for sale, now i have to do the same thing on this one. bah.

edit: also found that the front factory skid plate is about to fall apart from rust and the previous owner's neglect. so if anyone has one they wanna get rid of, let me know.

overdue for an update. i replaced the front pads and rotors on the blue truck, they were terrible. absolutely terrible. i removed all of the other transferable stuff from the red truck to the blue one and red one is officially up for sale. then this weekend i got around to swapping out the wheels and tires. i like the difference they made.

i'll try to get a better pick today.

adding some pointless information to my thread for my own benefit. cleaned the MAF and TB today at 75,400 miles. also changed the spark plugs, and i'm glad i did. they were the factory plugs, already seems to be running smoother.

also, the TPMS light is now on, only took it 800 miles to figure out that there are no sensors anymore..

also gave the truck a good wash and wax after doing some "truck stuff". paint still shines good for being 10 years old.

    Doing work

lots of work done to the truck this weekend. started with installing the frame plug kit, washing the frame down, and applying 2 generous coats of fluid film to as much of the frame that i can reach to. i ripped off another exhaust heat shield, it was barely hanging on.

i also installed a bunch of parts from my old red truck to this one.

when i removed my front splash guard to get access to the frame, it fell apart...

i also noticed the smaller splash pan behind this one isnt even on my truck. i assume all of them came with it? my red truck did. if anyone has these up for sale, and they don't look like swiss cheese, please let me know. i'd like to put them on the truck and have them work along with this new part

i cleaned up some surface rust and rock chip areas on the rockers of the truck and sprayed 2 coats of rubberized undercoating on both sides of the truck.

and then i decided to clean up the paint issue back my my rear fender flares. i was not expecting to find what i found...

it was a lot worse than i thought it would be. at some point, i'm going to need to do a pretty extensive repair. i ground away all the rust i could and i actually burned all the way through in a couple placesafer i ground down the rust, i applied two coats of chassis saver.

i clear coated everything, but forgot to take pics. after the clear hardens up for a couple of days, i'm going to scuff it up along the lower edges and apply some chip guard. i'll grab some more pics when i'm done.

more maintenance logging. Completed teh DIY transmission fluid flush at 79,950 miles. Also dropped the pan and cleaned the magnets and valve body. replaced with new gasket, all new pan bolts, new plugs and about 13.5 quarts of WS fluid. There was actually a noticeable difference.

Got some work to do to the truck as soon as the weather stays consistently nice. I need 4 new tires. I'm going with the dynapros in 265 70 16 on my scs f5 wheels. i'm going to transfer the tpms from the stock sport 17's and switch them over to the scs wheels. i'm not going with the 265 75 16s this time around for one main reason, i ran these wheels and tires on the truck for about 6 months and i did not like how it affected the auto transmissions shift points. I didnt think it would make that big of a difference, but i would rather the transmission be happy than have bigger tires.

Fun fact, stock 17s with the stock size wheels weigh 60 lbs according to my bathroom scale. These tires are more than halfway run down as well. The dynapros with 265 75 16s more than halfway run down on the scs wheels weigh 55 lbs.

I plan on ordering my mesh to do a thin lip satoshi grill and then mount my hella 550s behind the grill. i also plan to re-install my cb and antenna from the old truck into this one, and add a aux fuse block from the old truck to this one as well. I also want to do the DIY aux input on the stock headunit and get my stupid compass/temp display repaired.

Repair items are I need to get a backing nut or something on my passenger side LCA bolt. it keeps loosening and i get that terrible crack and pop when the suspension flexes. I also need to either order new brake shields or rip them off entirely. They are so rusted and flexing so much now that they scrape on the backside of the rotor sometimes. Terrible sounds. I need a new windshield thanks to a large dumptruck kicking up a small boulder... And most recently, my door actuator crapped out on me on the driver's front door. I plan to follow some of the DIYs on here and try to fix it/clean it vs. buy a new one.

More things may get added to the list depending on what kind of deals i can find this year.

Thanks, its a slow moving project. I cant do too much crazy stuff with it being my daily.

And another thing to add to the list...the driver's rear actuator stopped working today. Great....it really makes me wish there was a keyhole in the rear doors...
