Toyota small pickup windshields have been prone to cracking for a very long time. My 93 did it twice, all the way across the bottom.

    It's a brand feature.

Had 3 rock impacts on my mine and it hasn't cracked yet, (small chips no cracks)

I went through about 4 windshields on my Gen 2. I cant notice much of a difference if any between the Gen 3 vs Gen 2.

Well not even 10k on the truck and I got a bullseye Crack in my windshield. There wasn't even a car in front of me. The car going in the other direction must have kicked it up. I have the protective film on the front and that even has a tear from the stone now also.

I had my 2011 tacoma windshield replaced many times like one every 6 months and chip repairs done in between. I thought wow I have gone a while without a chip. THEN IT HAPPENED! I was going like less than 20mph and something hit the bottom right corner and cracked half way across. Call 3 glass shops ( I have glass coverage) they all said it had to come from toyota. I used to be able to call in and get it done with no problems. Now I am just waiting till safelite has one in stock and can garrentee me a time. That's what you get living in remote area.

All good here. My 2011, christ! it was the worst windshield I've ever dealt with,
anything that came near it either cracked it or chipped it, I had safe-lite on speed dial!!

What I'm interested in is what you think the survey results will do?

Does Toyota really care enough to make a change in the composition of the glass? Something that is more of an industry standard (safety glass) than and OE standard?

And if the shape / contour of the glass is the issue, that means a cab redesign. About 10 years?

Not sure about the Taco, but if it's anything like the Scion's, then they're junk. My wife went through 3 windshields in the first 2 years she had he xD.
Oddly enough, now that we have full glass coverage, it hasn't broken again...

Got windshield replaced Monday and tech told me the windshields invoice was $900. Glad I have glass coverage and didn't cost me a dime.

Did you get it done at a glass shop? I've found Toyota dealers have much better pricing on glass.

Just got my first at 600 miles. It was a big hit, dead center of the windshield ... crack is smaller than I expected it would be. A semi kicked it up as I was actively trying to this result by slowing down a bit as he passed me.

My commute is 134 miles round trip per day, 5 days a week, so this is a typical occurrence. My Jetta has about 4-5 small cracks, and older truck a big one in the upper passenger side corner. I kinda felt naked for these couple of days without a cracked windshield, thank goodness it's over!

Is there any type of clear protective film to put over a windshield? I would definitely buy it if so. Replacing a windshield can be a real pita.
