Robby Gordon's Father Among Two Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide
Mike Guy,The Drive 7 hours ago
    [IMG]
The father of former NASCAR legend Robby Gordon was found dead last night in an apparent murder-suicide involving Robert "Baja Bob" Gordon, according to multiple sources.

Police are investigating the deaths of the elder desert-racing legend, 69, and his wife, Sharon, 57. Their bodies were found in their Orange, California, home last night after a 5 p.m. 911 call. Police told multiple sources they were investigating the murder-suicide scenario, though they didn't specify how the two died.

Robby Gordon has has raced in NASCAR, CART, IndyCar, Trans-Am, IMSA, IROC and the Dakar Rally, and founded the Stadium Super Trucks racing, which is now known as the Speed Energy Formula Off-Road series, in 2013. Gordon's sister, Beccy, is married to IndyCar ace Ryan Hunter-Rhea.

Baja Bob was a fixture in desert racing in the late 1970s and '80s and a two-time winner of the Baja 1000.

I caught the last few laps on MRN. Sounded pretty exciting. Nice run for Blaney. Nice recovery for Truex.

post race inspection is kind of ridiculous if you don't go into the garage... they should watch the pit road cams, and make sure no one did anything illegal, and if you pass pre race you are good.... a lot of stress in put into the suspension and body panels during a race, of course a lot of cars fail

Truex toe was 0.01* out of tolerance. NASCAR has adjusted their penalties for the Chase. The win stands as long as the toe is <0.12* out.

Ascar implemented a rule that you can't swerve on pit road any more; so Truex CC told him to swerve immediately after he got the checkered to try and knock the rear toe back to spec.

It's crazy that these engineers have figured out away to have the car pass pre race and swerve the cars to make it change to a certain amount and then knock it back in after the race by swerving again post race.

NASCAR Hit With $500 Million Racial Discrimination Lawsuit
Will Sabel Courtney,The Drive 5 hours ago
    [IMG]
NASCAR is being sued for $500 million on the claims that the racing league has discriminated against teams and drivers on racial grounds, according to the plaintiffs in the suit.

On September 16th, Terrance Cox and his company Diversity Motorsports Racing filed a suit against NASCAR, its parent company International Speedway Corporation, and all 18 NASCAR teams. The lawsuit claims NASCAR refused to let Diversity Motor Sports bring a team into the series or join the “Drive for Diversity” program, which is designed to encourage women and minority involvement.

Adding fuel to the fire, the suit also points out that only one of the 18 teams includes black people amongst their owners, while none of the drivers in the top-tier Sprint Cup series and only one in the Xfinity Series are African-American.

“Motorsports remain the most racially segregated sport in the United States,” the suit states, according to Reuters. “NASCAR and ISC have been complicit in, and supportive of, the racially discriminatory environment that virtually excludes African-Americans from meaningful participation.”

The plaintiffs are seeking $75 million in compensatory damages, and $425 million in punitive damages. A lawyer for the plaintiffs said the money would go to organizations seeking to increase minority involvement in motorsports, Reuters reports.

NASCAR, not surprisingly, is claiming the lawsuit is ridiculous. The racing organization "embraces all individuals interested and involved in our sport, whether as partners, fans, competitors or employees, and there is no merit to this lawsuit," a spokesperson toldTMZ Sports. "Diversity both on and off the track continues to be a top priority for NASCAR and its stakeholders. We stand behind our actions, and will not let a publicity-seeking legal action deter us from our mission."

TMZ added that NASCAR reportedly plans to countersue the plaintiffs for defamation.

(please please PLEASEEEEEEE don't let this thread get out of hand with low-brow jokes and commentary. Perhaps we CAN talk about this without trying to "make a funny.")
Without throwing the "R" word out there, or tossing a certain "card" on the table, as is the traditional and social media trend at the moment, data and statistics show that historically and currently, there has been a systematic control and ever increasing shift of wealth in this country to the privileged class. We all know what color/race comprises that small percentage of the American population. We know how our ancestors began that accumulation of wealth and how they benefited directly or indirectly from that system, and the systematic r*cism in our country. I understand the politics and symbolism of such a lawsuit, but I think it is frivolous now and forever.

100% YEP. I've tailgated at small dirt & paved ovals to Charlotte, Atlanta, Talladega, and Darlington. The crowd is mostly chill and accepting these days. It wasn't always that way, but it's pretty diverse as far as economically and socially. There was only one instance at Darlington of blatant idiocy. There was a black family (husband, wife, 3 kids) descending the bleachers after the race and a drunk older feller had a beer in a coozie with a rebel flag on it. The old drunk stuck his arm out and held it, stars & bars out in the black father's face, giving him a cold stare until the family descended the steps. Both myself and my 3 buddies really wanted to cock that old feller hard in the jaw.
I have an American racing blog on tumblr and I have a great deal of followers from diverse racial, sexual, and gender orientation. Getting to know all these people and share our mutual passion for American stock car, drag racing and open wheel racing has been a real pleasure for me. It's also affirmed my confidence that the sport will continue and be just fine after all the sabre rattling old guard fans leave this Earthly realm*.

*While still young, I started watching in the '80s and consider myself to be part of the old guard as well.

Looks like Kyle and horse have it pretty well set for next round without a win... Austin Dillon, McMurray and Larson have a battle on their hands this next race

Man, Larson has been fast in pretty much every practice since the chase started. When his contract is up with Gannassi, he's going to be a hot free-agent.
Still rooting for 48 to get number 7 this year (can't wait to see what kind of backlash I get for making that statement). :D

He's pretty loyal to Chip, as Chip was the only guy who put a contract on the table for Kyle when a bunch of other teams showed interest and Kyle flew all over the place on his own dime only to be told "bring a sponsor," or "we'll let you drive K&N if you can bring 2.5 million for a season." Kyle's family has money, but not that much $. Like Formula 1, stock car racing is very much Pay to Play, even down into the Late Mode ranks. It's not who always has the best raw talent. Kyle was an exception to the modern rule. He has more raw talent than Kyle Busch. The Busch brothers come from moneyed folk. Like Denny Hamlin (Jeff Gordon, Joey Logano, and many other drivers) parents, the Busch's financed their kid's racing careers for over a decade. That's a huge investment.
