@mbmack1 did you see this? It's got 4.88 gears and a factory locker

 

I think you can wire up a switch for the locker.

 

Yes, the jeep factory lockers are two wire electric.

 

Land cruiser axles are awesome. It is hard to beat a 4.88 geared E-locked Dana 44 front for $1800 though.

 

Holy shit.. All-pro wants $5500 for their SAS front axle??

 

It's a nice kit for sure, but overpriced IMO. It is a 3 link kit though. Overkill for most people that aren't running their trucks on 5/5 rated trails (also my opinion)

If I am going SAC (its actually a conversion, not a swap, unless you already have one) I am gonna be on at least 37's. So it would have to be an axle that could turn those tires with no problems. Of course other people want different things to come out of theirs. I just want to run 37's. Thats all, is that too much to ask? Also I am throwing my bumpers and my KMFAB IFS skid up on the for sale thread, thought I would throw it all in here to for my peeps.

If I am gonna pay for LT then I am just going to go solid axle at that point. Not too much more expensive and more suited to what I do. I have been following his truck for a while though.

 

If you are going solid axle and 37s and heavy gear and heavy foot, go with a legit axle.

3 link and matched crossover steering is the primo option.

Leaf springs are a good simple approach. I'm sticking to them on the buggy since it is light and simple and running built 8" axles with sticky 37s.

 

The solid axle and 37s on the PW make bumps seem smaller and speeds can still creep up just fine.

Boogie Bumps will probably be next for me. Then speed is limited by the sheer size/weight followed by shocks.

 

I have heavy foot disorder. Probably from running all those trails where a locker was required that I did with no locker.

November 18th-20th, FRIDAY-SUNDAY

4wd crew will be wheeling through the infamous 23 mile Rug Road Trail through the Galiuro Mountains to our camping area in Turkey Creek, near Aravaipa Wilderness Preserve. the Phoenix 2wd group will enter in from the east on the graded road route from near Thatcher, east of Globe/San Carlos. Tucson 2wd group will come in from the south from Wilcox through Fort Grant and Bonita.

Mammoth, AZ 85192. Departure time to trail head at 8:30. Time on trail is 6 hrs minimum. Trail difficulty is rated 3.5-4 out of 5.

Due to the size of the group interested in doing the 4wd route, and as long as drop-outs are minimal, the 4wd attendees will be split into two groups. Each group will have a trail leader with prior experience running the route.

The first group will depart 15-30 mins prior to the second, to avoid trail crowding at obstacles. This should allow both groups to make good time through the trail and to camp. Should dropouts occur (and they will) and if the attendee list drops under 10, we will revert back to a one-group run. Final details will be decided and discussed at the air down location at the trailhead.
