I think there's some misunderstanding on what types of personalities are doing sales jobs.

I'm not disagreeing with either of you, you're just wanting the salesman type to be something other than the salesman type. There's a reason sales positions are low paying, high stress jobs with massive turnover rates.

Your expectations are normal, but they're not in line with the realities of those levels of employment whether we like it or not. The salesmen who strive for achievement don't stay in sales very long, and those who do venture off into better paying sales industries.

You can make incredible amounts of money in sales if you're talented and selling the right product for the right company. Car sales is neither, and doesn't attract that talent due to a variety of reasons.

Trade it, you will never be happy with the truck, just don't go to the same dealership and definitely not the same salesperson. This is a costly lesson in life, know what you want and don't let somebody sale/talk you into something else. Remember car sales people are not your friend their there to sell cars/trucks!

Don't know how it is in Cali, but here in Texas you only get Taxed on the difference when you trade in a vehicle. Also look at NADA (http://www.nada.com) it will give you a good estimate of what your trade in value is. Don't take anything under High Trade-in Value and just work out the price on a 4x4. Just a little bit of my $0.02, I would stay away from the dealership that sold you the truck to begin with. Good luck hope you can get this resolved

Talk about going from one end of the country to the other. What part of Maine you from? I grew up in central, moved to northern, then western, now in southern.

Hey everyone thanks so much. Wow. Really appreciate all of the responses. It seems to be swaying both ways, however (which is to be expected. This is where I am still confused:

The dealer said I would take a $2k in depreciation. So my truck that I paid $33k for (before tax and licensing) they would give me $31k on trade in. Then I would get an SR5 4X4 at $33k. That's a difference of $2k plus I would have to pay tax and license on the new truck - which is about $3k. So $5k plus total difference. And then I would need to re-do all of the financing? New credit report etc. My rate is 4% and I owe $25k.

I got it from Longo and it's black.

All I'm saying is the salesman or whatever job your in, you have you strive to be the best. Its a work ethic that has worked for me in every job I've had regardless if it was my dream job or not. I've never had a job where I did not get promoted or given a raise or special task and its because my work ethic apparently is rare these days. I believe If everyone did the same at their job, this economy could flourish. But too many concessions are being made for those who want to lift one less finger than the rest of us.

This may appear to go off topic, but when I experienced what the OP went through I knew at the root of the problem it was the salesman who were lazy and uninformed about their product. Every job I've had has involved work I never went to school for, but with the little resources given to me I was able to learn on my own and excel at what I was hired to do. Just because its not your dream job, doesn't mean you have to suck at it.

Btw.. I've worked in high-stress sales environments and have done well at it, I have a decent understanding of what the sales guy is dealing with. But I've also seen other sales guys come work with me that have no product knowledge nor care about the customers needs and get by doing acceptable work. Those guys are still just getting by and have never gone to the next level.

lol fair enough - I went from nothing but trees to no trees. I grew up maine-ly in central right outside of Augusta, but most of my family besides my parents live in southern Maine - mostly Portland and Falmouth. It seems most of my friends that stayed there live in southern Maine like you.

Take a $5k hit? After three weeks of ownership? Yeah, I must admit I'm not ready to do that. My wife would kill me anyway ;) Anyone have a 2014 or 2015 4x4 and wanna trade? :anonymous::frusty:

Every "dealer" is not the same. I can go to Longo Toyota to buy the exact same truck and pay a different price. Just because that is what they told you they would do it for does not mean that another dealer would or wouldn't do more. You have to shop around to get the best deal. How do you know if your getting the best deal if there are no other deals? Don't spend time driving around to all the dealers in SoCal. Use internet sales. They will make you the best deal with the least amount of your time.

$35k for a 4x2 is ridiculous, I have no idea how that happened in the first place. If you are allowing them to do that to you on a 4x2, watch out for what they do on a 4x4 in SoCal. 4% finance rate too is really high, do you have horrible credit? If you don't, you can get a much better rate.

Taking a $5k+ loss is way too tough this soon into it, but its up to you. Are you really at risk for getting stuck in 2wd? You say you never offroad. Have you ever been stuck in 2wd in your previous trucks?

I had a 2006 prerunner dcsb sport and it was a fine truck. It did mostly whatever I needed. Sucked balls in the snow though. So I would say, if you live in an area where it snows, trade now and retain as much value as you can instead of stacking miles. (Sorry I didn't read much of the thread.)

Sounds like your user name is correct, you just want 4 wheel drive to be a wanna be. Sounds like you don't need or use it. It isn't safer, all it does it help you start out in slick conditions. Chances are if you think you need 4wd for most normal plowed road driving (all those resorts plow, look at all the cars that make it there in the middle of winter) you probably shouldn't be out driving in those conditions. There is a reason you were talked in to it to begin with...

Guess best of luck which ever direction you choose. Never understood buying 4wd you don't use and as expensive as it is just to have to downgrade models and lose features you want or like/use, guess image is always more important.

I use 4x4 all the time. I would say trade it for the truck you wanted originally.

If image wasn't important, people would be driving Frontiers. Look at all the 70-80K shiny trucks all over Texas. Image is the main reason people hate the Ridgeline....

I'm sure there is someone waiting for a 16 tacoma on here who would consider buying yours for $2k less than new. Your truck is practically new.
