Got a 2008 tacoma. Changed the coil packs the other night and on my way to work the next day it started jerking and when I pulled off the road it shut off. Had to change spark plugs to get it to start. The jerking stopped as well for a few miles. Then came back. Mainly happens between 40 and 50 when it's under 2000 rpms. But will do it at other speeds just not as bad or as often. Also will idle funny when sitting still and in drive.

Did not mess with maf sensor unless I bumped it changing them.
Changed them just because truck is at 135000 and they have never been changed, that I know of

The light came on but went off after changing spark plugs. And advance/auto zone said they cant scan it if the light isn't on...

What brand plugs? If it's Bosch, consider that your problem. If they aren't NGK or/ and Denso, I'd put NGK/Denso in it then recheck. Copper core- gapped to spec

This would be the first step. It sounds like you're getting intermittent or weak spark to one cylinder. One of the coils might not have been tightened enough or didn't seat properly. That kind of unlikely though, since you changed the coils the did the plugs later. I'd guess your trouble isn't at the plug end of the coil that's causing trouble.

The process to check the coil packs is simple, for which one is being problematic. While the truck is idling improperly, then unplug then reconnect each call pack, one at a time, and see if it makes the truck's engine idle changes. The plug which does not cause the engine to stumble worse is the one suspect coil pack/plug

His case is only while driving it from what he said. This option may not work because the CP is getting proper voltage while at the idle speed but not at certain RPMs above that. your options are to recheck that each CP is on the plug proper, or that each CP is plugged in securely to the wire harness then go drive it or each time after.

But im guessing that you have a bad CP. I Just dealt with this on my f350 and it was a bad CP same symptoms and all. The CP works under acceleration just fine but when you try to cruise it bucks intermittently. mine didn't even throw a code because the misfire wouldnt happen for long enough, i guess, so i had to change them individually to find the bad one. annoying yes. pretty easy though

I have heard of brand new CP being bad out of the box but not terribly often if you buy decent quality

Yep, Bosch seems to have an incompatibility problem.

Maybe put the original coil packs back on, and see if the problem still exists?

Totally disappointed with the title change. It was way more fun before.

I've had bad coil packs out of the box, or the wrong one used. Sometimes the "oem" denso coils don't sit right as they are one part # off.

Swap the original coil packs back in, and confirm the issue is resolved. They are not a maintenace item, and if you bought cheap aftermarket replacements, most likely one or more is defective.

There is no reason to replace the OE coil packs unless one has failed, and even then it's on an as needed basis.
