    hi...first post here...

had the 2015 (9k miles) out for the first time today on easy/moderate 4WD trails. i noticed a repeated "clunking" sensation/sound being transmitted thru the steering column/wheel while travelling like 10 mph over intermittent grapefruit size rocks. my question: is this normal for this truck, or should it be checked out? the highway ride home was just fine - rode normally and smooth. i'm coming from a 1994 toyota 4WD which did not do this.

any pearls of wisdom? thanks in advance!

No problem. There was a tsb at one point years ago that involved putting a zip tie on the rag joint to cut down on the rattle. There is nothing mechanically wrong with it though, its just clunky. I had it done to my last tacoma (2011). It cut it down a little, but didnt completely go away. My 13 does the same thing. Ive just gotten use to it.

If you ever take it in to the dealer with warranty don't give them the same discription you gave us. Just let them know you were driving in the mall parking lot going over speed bumps ;)

Its probably the steering intermediate shaft, the upper one. The TSB that appeared in 2010 had a revised part. The part is still available. My '14 has its intermediate start the clunk/rattle within a couple thousand miles and was really bad off road. I put the TSB shaft in myself to shut it up. Curiously I have not heard much about the TSB the last couple years and wonder whether it was officially extended to the later models? You can ask your dealer about whether it applies to yours and see if they would put in the revised part number under warranty.
