Should have said 'completely impractical' instead of 'nearly impossible.'

There's at least one fab shop doing a LT with fully fabbed spindles with an integrated lower uniball. What I've ascertained through all of this though is leave the stock LCAs and LBJs as they are, but make sure to replace the LBJ, and bolts, with OEM every so often.

Not to muddle up Alex's build anymore, but there wouldn't be any travel gains either. My shock is my limiting travel on downtravel right now, any more and it would be my CV.

I just want mo' stronger ;) I have a general distrust in ball joints on IFS, but they do seem to handle an impressive amount of abuse from first gen'ers.

    Sometimes.... I miss the flatbed.

I always wanted to get that thing dialed in, with weatherproof drawer below the deck, weatherproof cargo boxes (ammo cans?) in the "fender" areas for recovery gear, compressor, etc., modular lumber rack that could be stowed in tubes below the bed.

If you guys haven't gathered, I like to tinker, so it should come as no surprise that I'm constantly entertaining ideas of projects. Last night I started thinking of removing the tire carrier, storing the spare in the bed, and building a swing-out bike rack...

    Maintenance time... GO!

I've been dealing with a speed-related vibration for probably most of this year... On highway, between 65-70, I get some vibrations that come through...everything. Steering wheel, floor, and shifter. But, it seems to go away or reduce severity over 70.... 70-90 is fine. This year I've replaced:

    - Clutch & flywheel (vibes happened before this, I think)
    - Steering rack, tie rods, etc.
    - Brakes (Tundra upgrade)
    - Driver CV, probably going to do Passenger today.
    - Carrier bearing
I even went back to Toyota wheels from the Pro Comp so I'd have hubcentric wheels... didn't really feel a noticeable change.

    Last year:
    - UCAs
    - Lower ball joints

What should I try next? Yesterday I jacked the truck up and started checking for worn out shit, and all I found was the driver side uniball bolt had worked its way loose by like 1/2 thread, so I pulled that apart and cleaned it up, loctited it on, and torques the piss out of it, as well as replace the CV axle on that side. I'm probably going to do the same on the passenger side today. Any ideas what I should look at next? Driveshaft outta balance? New engine mounts?

I do feel like the vibes have gone down a bit, but I don't really have a frame of reference for when they reduced. Post-steering didn't really solve much, post-carrier bearing didn't either. It's like a bunch of baby steps with nearly unnoticeable changes. Also, 4Xinnovations has their bomber tranny mount, worth trying?

The vibes aren't as sketchy as they were at one point, so should I just accept that Tacomas do that and move on?

Also, wheel bearings seem to be in good shape, smooth and don't have discernible play.

    Tires been balanced recently?

You could just be hitting a natural frequency of the truck. Tough to do anything about that however.

The new tars have Dynabeads, I was thinking I'd have them checked at a tire shop to be sure....

But. I think... I may have fixed it. (for now).

Replaced the passenger side CV today, and in so doing, I checked the transmission mount (seems fine), and checked torque on the forward diff mount bolts, as well as all steering hardware. Well, I found that one of the diff drop bolts wasn't torqued all the way down.. Plus, the conical washer was on upside-down, putting pressure on the bushing, not the bushing sleeve. Perhaps it was torqued, but the rubber compressed and it became loose. Flipped the washer, tightened it, and boom. Drive home from the garage was smooth all the way from 60-80.

I'm not 100% sure it's gone, but for now it seems drastically improved. I'll still get the alignment redone soon, and probably have a shop check balance of the tires.

Vibes are the absolute worse dude, I'm in the same boat, trying to track down a vibe around the same speed, glad to see you found the culprit

I didn't really have any vibes until I mounted full belly skids. Now everything reverberates through the frame into the cab. Guess it's a worthy trade-off for drivetrain protection...

They seem to be working  I definitely don't notice a feeling of tires being outta balance. I'll probably take them to a shop here soon and see how they balance out on a machine.

I'm pretty sure there's still a little vibe, so aside from an alignment, I'm going to replace the bushings for the differential support and see if that changes anything. But for now, it's so much better. I hate chasing phantom issues.

    Ahhh... full belly skids. #goals

If you dont mind, might try to copy your bike rack design. I would love to have more clearance for my Thule x2 offroad.

Have at it, you're welcome to check it out sometime. It was plenty strong for 2 bikes, but it became kind of a PITA to operate that main pin with 2 bikes loaded, so I eventually chopped off the second bike position, which improved things a lot more--but I eventually grew tired of folding the bike rack, then dealing with tire carrier/topper door/tailgate... So I built a new one that bolts to the tire carrier.

I'm happy to chat more about what I like/didn't like about the design.

I installed it this morning... I was tired of waiting! Went into work early and laid everything out on my bench. I still need to go over everything with silicone, and one of the plusnuts isn't very happy, might need to just weld it in place... it kind of snagged one of the roof supports and went in kind of crooked.
