I used to drive an old VW. I always kept a highway flare handy just in case.

    In case it broke down:

    1. Open windows
    2. Light flare
    3. Place lit flare on front cloth seats
    4. Close door and walk away

GAP insurance. (Caveat- I am from New Jersey).

does turning tires to black wall out count? How bout added snug top rebel.
All the first generation Powerstrokes had this issue also. Everyone that owned a Powerstroke in the 90's had to carry a spare CPS. Like 5 years later ford recalled every Powerstroke to get a new CPS, and they had dropped the price from $400 to like $100. Also the accelerator pedals stopped working, sensor would stop sensing and you'd just go to idle. Now years later those old body style ford powerstrokes are thought of as the one of most reliable diesels, but they all had the same CPS issues.

It's a work in progress. See my build thread.
I tried to start a poll to collect some data regarding where built, but got little response. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...cps-crankshaft-position-sensor-issues.443161/

Of course they can and do, but people buy Toyotas and keep coming back to buy more for lots of reasons including one big one, their practically legendary reliability. It's the reason I'm on my fifth one. they are so damn reliable, never leave you stuck somewhere, cheap to keep as they used to say. So having problems so soon after purchase is whats so damn disappointing. Yeah, warrantys are great, but can only be utilized when your off the trail, back in town and when the dealer is open for business and can look at it. Missed day from work maybe, the hassle of it all, need a temp vehicle if you can even get one. The lost faith in your new ride. But yeah, warranties.

I believe in one post on a different thread some one said the CPS cost about $135, if it was only $20 I'd buy a spare and keep it in the glove box, but not for $135 or there abouts.

    Well said.

If warranties are what we cared about, we would be driving crap Korean cars with their orgasmic inducing warranty. Just because I can go to the dealer 10 times a year for 10 years, doesn't mean I want to. The best warranty is the one you don't have to use (I say this as a sad addict to British cars)....

Was it the CPS? And if so, was the catalytic converter affected?
