May depend a bit on the hammock and the hang.

I backpack with a Hennessy Hammock. The sleeping position is at a diagonal to the centerline, so I'm closer to level, enough so that I'm usually sleeping on my side in it.

It's super nice when it rains overnight not to worry about my stuff getting wet. Shoes hang on a bit of cord under the hammock, pack hangs on a tree with pack cover over it. Snug as a bug in a rug.

Hennessy Hammock is where it's at. That's also what I use backpacking (although I haven't been in a few years). For truck/dispersed camping I've got a couple of ENOs that I really like, not for nighttime sleeping though.

I've been hammock backpacking for over ten years. My first hammock was a gift from Tom Hennessy himself. Great product but I've long since moved away from his stuff.
There's so much better stuff from the cottage makers that are lighter, better/different designs, better suspension systems...

Please post up specific suggestions, just saying they exist doesn't really help anyone who's looking.

I'm sure things have moved forward since I bought my backpacker asym, something like twelve or thirteen years ago. It's been working fine for me so I've not had any real reason to look for something else.

    Can. Of. Worms!

If you've got something that's working for you, I don't see a need to change.
Just as there's devout Tacoma folks, and this forum for us, there's hammockforums.net. Enjoy!

I think I posted this a while ago but a friend of mine has the AMOK hammock set-up. I tried it out and it was pretty damned cool.

Spendy, but hey so is a new Tacoma, lol.

I'm not surprised that there's better options out there but I got my Hennessy back when it was the only thing on the market. I'd actually have to start backpacking seriously again before I reassess my gear.

Indeed. I'm not looking to make a change, it just seemed the discussion had piqued a couple folks interest, and since we're all friends here I'd say that any suggestions you had might help narrow their search.

The forums I listed has a whole section on manufacturers, from larger outfits like Hennessy, to small mom n pop places like AntiGravityGear.

I have favorites, but that's because the gear works for me. I won't ever say one is better because there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to backpacking gear. (But I will try to sway tent dwellers to get off the ground!)

I've been in and around the outdoor industry for so long, some of the vendors send me stuff to field test and review. Theres lots of great stuff out there, you have to find what works for you.

I've used them. I like them. I've also just used a strap and marlin spike hitch. Now I just use a strap. (I'll edit this post with the video in a minute when I find it)

    Found it!
