Hey guys, anyone running the (black) TRD supercharger for the first gens....what kind of supercharger oil do you use?

The GM brand that was recommended on several other threads here can't be ordered or sold in California apparently, I've tried ordering on 3 different websites (Amazon included) and I keep getting the same alert saying it's not for sale in CA :notsure:

I've attached a pic of the stuff I'm trying to get but can't. Any other recommended brands out there?

got mine from TEC in oakland, $8.99 + tax.

Call them here (san fernando valley, close by to you): https://www.yelp.com/biz/tec-equipment-service-los-angeles

See if they can order it or have it on hand. Oakland had to order, it came same day. Great company from my experience. I had the same issue with Amazon.

Chevy dealers carry it as well. Bought some mine from Rydell in Northridge for my R53 Mini Cooper S years ago.

Thanks guys, I'll check those options out. Seemed weird that it's restricted in CA, doesn't make any sense to me but then again...most laws out here don't.

If you can't find it locally, I live in a free state and I'd be happy to forward it on to you.

That eBay kit looks good, may just try to order that and see if I can get it delivered. I read that I would need two 8oz bottles though in another thread, all these GM bottles come in 4oz. 16oz total seems like a lot of oil...how much does the s/c take?

I thought the newer gen's take more oil, and thus require two bottles. I thought our gen takes 120ml ( :fingerscrossed: cause thats what I put in mine). Note: 4oz is just shy of 120ml though, 118.3ml , so I think two bottles is necessary if you want to get that extra 2ml.

Cool thanks, I'm actually going to be driving past a Chevy dealership later this afternoon so I'll see if their parts dept. has any in stock...I'll just stock up on 4 or 5 bottles to be safe and have around for later. Thanks guys

You guys got the shaft there in Cali. I remember when I lived there, we had water and our classic cars weren't held to any SMOG standard.

I will say, having lived in Los Angeles in the 1980s, the smog standards did make a difference. Air quality in LA still sucks, but comparatively, its night and day (and would be even worse if not implemented)

True, I wasn't old enough in the 80's to remember but I have a friend I work with who grew up in LA in the 70s in Pasadena. He told me the smog was so thick at times in the city that it looked like a constant heavy fire was raging throughout the summer. Couldn't play outside as a kid because it was so bad. Once they started implementing regulations on cars, it got much better. Just too many people out here lol.
