Wife wanted something to put little ceramic pieces on. I plan to build two matching picture frames to mount on the wall in the opening. I stained the oak with Minwax Early American and used a satin water based poly to seal it.

 

Did u use water based stain too?

 

Has anyone built a bed frame yet? Girl friend is demanding a King sized bed frame.

 

No. Real deal. Since it is oak, I did not use wood conditioner.

 

Buy the actual frame that holds the box spring and mattress. Build the head and foot boards

 

I did. Not terribly difficult. Depending on what you want.

 

That is what I figured/planned on doing.

 

Here's a full size using yellow pine. I used hardware that gets mortised in. The slats are 2x4's and I'd suggest using a middle support with legs for a king. I've also built beds with storage drawers and whatnot but I like the simple construction lumber. This fullsize cost about $55 in materials.

 

Looks good and looks strong. Will last longer than my $1500 particle/veneer King Bed (made in Vietnam) that is of poor construction and thought. All the support around the 4 corners and no support in the middle.

Can someone tell me what the easiest and safest way to cut this in half down the middle would be? Hand saw I am guessing? It is the same size as a 2nd gen tacoma emblem. Thanks!

 

i'd probably clamp it into my front vice and use the rip side of my japanese ryoba handsaw to rip it w/ a thin kerf...

 

Glue it to a larger piece then use a bandsaw to cut each piece off.

 

Might be able to do it on a table saw, thin kerf blade and a zero clearance insert.

Double sided tape to a larger piece and use a resaw blade and fence on a bandsaw.
