I don't have the full TSB and probably wouldn't know how to put it on here anyway, I think its something like 80 pages long haha. This particular paragraph is on page 5 though and the TSB is campaign #173. If the advisor can't find it with that much info time for a different dealership haha.

Thanks, that will help a lot. My letter from Toyota is pretty much identical to yours except is missing the paragraph regarding 15 year warranty coverage. :notsure:

Spoke with a representative at Toyota.ca and confirmed the campaign was extended until Dec 31st 2016.

I wanted to confirm the extended coverage for the frame after CRC application for 15years/unlimited mileage as the letter above. I was told this is not the case as this applied only to model years 97-00. The TSB/letter above clearly indicated 2005-2008. If anyone has the TBS/letter whole TSB number, please post or PM me so that I can clarify this once for all. I can't find it online. So far I was told I'll get CRC treatment without any additional warranty.

Hi everyone, just wanted to give everyone a heads up to make sure you check the work that is done for your frame recall. I had this done at Dealer "a", it was done so poorly, they had to redo it 2 more times. Even after doing it 3 times, there were still bare spots, places where the rust was showing through and overspray on everything under the truck (muffler, catalytic converters, transmission, spare tire, etc). I called Toyota Canada, opened a case and asked to got to dealer "b" to have it looked at. When the "b" looked at it, they said that the coating was applied too thick in some areas, too thin in others, some places were missed and that they could tell the frame had not been cleaned before the coating was applied. The tech even removed a frame plug and showed me that the inside of the frame had not been cleaned and they had sprayed the wax coating over the dirt.

Just make sure you take the time to crawl under your truck and check the work. Hope you all have better luck than I did!

Thanks for sharing your experience. The undercoating appeared to be thorough on my truck. That said, several months on surface rust is beginning to shoe through

That sucks, once again I'm on the fence what to do. Thinking of skipping on this campaign and continuing doing Krown annually since my frame would be covered only for next 5 years anyway.

Hi everyone, I need some advice as to what to do about my truck. As I said in my last post I've had problems with my dealer doing the recall improperly (3 times). I called Toyota and had it brought to a different dealer that inspected it and agreed that it was done poorly and needed to be fixed. The new dealer sent it back to the original dealer to have the frame cleaned and scraped. The new dealer called me to come in and inspect it, it looks terrible. The coating is too thick and can't be removed from some areas. I told them to go ahead and redo the coating (it would take another 50+ hours to completely clean the frame and that's being optimistic). I think that the value of my truck is reduced plus I have been without the truck for 64 days this year as of yesterday. What if any compensation should I seek from the original dealer? Any ideas on how i should proceed?

My truck went in 1.5 weeks ago (2005 trd off road), failed a parking lot inspection, sent pictures off to Toyota and got the call the next morning everything is a go. It's going to be 8 months they said, but I get a rental truck the whole time.

Is there a list of parts they replace? I've been told frame, lower control arms, "some" brake and fuel lines, and rear leaf springs and asscotiated hardware. Do they replace the rusted out factory skid plate? E-brake cables? Anything else?

They suggested replacing gas tank straps, which I am going to do.
I have bought a engine pulley kit (idlers, tensioner, and serpentine belt), Bilsteins 4600's, headlights, trd skid plate, spark plugs, sway bar and steering rack poly bushings, maybe some more things as time goes on.

Anyone have any recommendations for a '05 with 200k in it?

I'm in weird pickle... I purchased a used 2006 Tacoma here in NC, US from a guy from Canada. The truck was manufactured in California to Canadian specs, so US Toyota recommended contacting Toyota Canada. I did the VIN search on their site and the frame recall didn't come up for my VIN. My mechanic said there's currently a significant split in the frame from the excessive rust as well as other damage, but that perforations are imminent. He also said the truck won't pass inspection the next time that comes around. I can still drive it on paved roads, but secondary roads and hauling are a "no." I live in a rural area, 75% of the road system are secondary roads... I did find a class action and submitted a form online: http://www.clg.org/Class-Action/List-of-Class-Actions/Toyota-Rusty-Frame-Canadian-Class-Action and I also contacted Toyota Canada via their crappy online email form. I feel like I'm a bit in limbo. Not sure what to do next and could really use some advice from others in similar predicaments. Thanks in advance...

Update: just spoke with Toyota Canada and they basically told me I'm screwed b/c the previous owner did not take the truck for the limited service campaign.

In Canada the campaign ended December 31st, 2016. You'll have to hold out for the lawsuit. Also a Canadian vehicle will be in the Canadian system, but should fall under American campaign rules. I had a 2004 Tacoma (USA model) imported into Canada, and they had to look it up in a USA system, but the campaign criteria was that of where the truck was currently registered. (Canada)

Hey NT - Thank you for this valuable information. I found one class action in the US and one in Canada, so I contacted both to play it safe. It looks like the US campaign ended before I even purchased the truck (March 2016). I'm getting an undercarriage inspection done at a local dealership for documentation, but is there anything else that you'd recommend doing? I've never had to deal with this major of an issue before so I'm out of my depth. Glad I found this forum though. Thanks!

hi NT, I recommend the power steering rack if its leaking. other things you can have done are the water pump and belt, timing cover if its leaking.

I have a Tacoma V6 M/T 2005. I received a letter in July 2014 advising about the corrosion problem on some 2005-2008 models. I took it to a dealer the following September who inspected and applied a corrosion-resistant compound to the frame. FYI I do most of the maintenance work myself. Fast forward to October 2017 and I noticed, when I was underneath the truck, that the coating on the frame (passenger side near the converter) was peeling off, along with metal layers from the frame. It still looked solid, but was a concern. I was advised to call Toyota Canada (1-888-Toyota8), which I did and they gave me a case number and said I should go to a Dealer of my choice to have it reinspected. This I did and the person who inspected it, had already been involved with 14 frame replacements, plus 6 more to go, found that the frame in that spot I mentioned, was rusting from the inside out. He took pictures and sent a report to Toyota Canada and the next day I received word that the frame will be replaced. At this point I will mention that the extended warranty on frames had expired at the beginning to the year, but at present, they seem to be good in unofficially extending it. At present, parts are being ordered and I was advised to take advantage of this disassemble/ reassemble situation e.g replace shocks (material cost only). I do know that the rear springs are included in the frame kit along with some rear brake lines. Hope this helps. BTW, I am in the Vancouver area.

    Hi Dennis
Good that .at least they will replace it this time.
I don t trust that coating that they did put on your frame.A guy that i know in my town, they did the very same to his Tacoma, and I am sure happy that they changed my frame right away and did nt out that stuff on.To me it is just like a big scam just to hide whatever rust that is inside !!!If I were you,yes do change your shocks for sure,i changed my shocks a few months after, and i paid the full price, labor and shocks,,now it is the time since it will be apart anyways ,you will save half your money..
    Best of luck
    Charly

    Hi guys,
Got some bad news from my mechanic the other day. My driver side engine mount that is welded to the frame just caved into the frame. Reading the forums, it looks like a common issue. The mechanic printed out the limited service campaign H0F for the CRC/Frame replacement. The issue date is Aug 28th 2017 so it is quite recent.

The truck was first sold in the state of FL but then imported into Canada in 07 and has been registered here since. Punching in the VIN on Toyota Canada show "VIN is not valid". Punching it in Toyota USA shows the service campaign H0F listed.
Here is where is gets super fun!!- In the cold weather states where the campaign is valid it does not list Florida (where the truck was first sold) but also says where the truck is registered. The truck is registered here in Ontario and has been for 11 years. Do you guys think I have a leg to stand on for getting the frame replaced?

I have an appointment Friday to have it inspected but so far its not looking good as they already said they cant find any service campaigns listed for my truck.

    Any help would be appreciated!

Okay took a couple beers but made it through all the postings (sorry for not doing it ahead of time... panic set in when I got the news). Future visitors with US trucks now registered in Canada page 6 is where you want to go... I will call Toyota Canada to hopefully open a case #. Hopefully dealer doesn't give me a hard time about missing the LSC that ended last Demeber since there is a current LSC in the US.
Anyone take their truck to Ancaster Toyota? I see others had luck in Brantford. I could limp it over there if I will have better luck.
