My 'aids are made by Phonak. I don't know if you can buy 'em online or not, but they require programming, usually by an audiologist, as they can tweak the various frequencies that are amplified somewhat like a graphic equalizer...

...^^^... I have had the tinnitus classes at the VA. This is one thing where the VA is best in research and treatment.

Many things can be a trigger to your tinnitus ... i.e. other sounds, foods, other medical problems & etc.

Just try to learn to tune it out when you are experiencing a big episode of tinnitus.

FWIW ... I sleep with a slight sound generator or fan noise at night and this works great for me.

I have it, and have had it since high school. it typically doesn't bother me. Sometimes in a dead quiet room I find it distracting but I've learned to cope with it.

yea the longest I had my ear go deaf was for day 1 and 2 couldn't hear anything, and every day after that it slowly got a little better. it was still at least a week before I go what I consider full hearing back. that was a PITA.

I have it and it sucks, but there are far worse medical issues to have.

I noticed it about a year ago. I went to an audiologists and my hearing is actually fine which was a relief. I got nervous my hearing was shot and when I think about it, its worse. If I stay busy or have sound I dont notice it much.

I did fly in the Air Force for a period of time so I thought about getting disability for it. I was always mostly good about plugs when flying and when I cut lawns in high school.

...^^^... Tinnitus is pretty much an automatic 10% disability IF it is serviced connected.

A "service connected MOS" helps substantiate your "tinnitus disability" claim to the DoD and/or the DVA.

PS ... Take the VA "tinnitus class" ... it is excellent (depending on where you are located).

I'll revive this thread for a bit.
Today was an odd one for me as far as my tinnitus. Everything sounded like it was going through a fan. You know when you talk into a fan, that distorted sound, yeah that. Everything from tv to my own voice sounded distorted. The worst was when I was listening to music in the garage, while others said it sounded crystal clear, to me it sounded like a blown Walmart car speaker.
Anyone else experience this? Usually, I just have ringing, and sometimes almost like air blowing into my ear. But, this was a new one. It lasted about 7 hours.

...^^^... I had a bad day last week too ... maybe 4 or 5 hours ... i.e. Loud high pitched buzzing.

I have never had the "talking through the fan sound" ... but have had other weird sounds.

Many things can cause mine to change fast i.e. Coffee, foods, weather, meds, kids screaming, and other sounds and complete silence is worst.

Good luck and just try to retrain your brain if possible or listen to music a lot. I live with some type of sound generated by me 24/7/365. I keep some type of background sounds on all the time, especially when I sleep.

I'm not even 25 years old yet and I've had it temporarily. I go to so many rock concerts and play in a band. After a loud show I have a sharp ringing in my ears. I should probably wear earplugs but after a while it goes away.

I am 30 and have tinnitus. I sleep with a box fan now and that seems to do the trick, Untill I got married I slept with the tv on. Unless I'm in a quite place I don't notice it. But when I do notice it, it's loud.

Have you had your hearing tested lately? I can't stress this enough to ALL you guys/gals having issues.
GET involved with your hearing. It's serious shit...... and yes, what 'little' sound I get in my left ear - sounds like a crackly speaker. I'm about 99% deaf in my left ear. Long story short, I currently wear a BAHA on left side.

The ear is a phenomenal thing - and hearing loss is from a variety of different issues. The outter ear, middle ear, and inner ear can have certain issues.

I can't stress enough to go to a 'reputable' Audiologist and Ortolaryngology specialist.

I need to read thru the thread.. But I want to thank everybody for their input ahead of that. I hope we can some day find a 100% solution for everybody suffering with this.

I'm still 24/7 with it. Hearing it pretty loud right now, which is what reminded me of the thread.

I see a couple of you mention the VA having classes for this? I've yet to "hear" about it, not surprised tho... Interesting I'm gonna have to look into that.

My last hearing test was last year during one of my VA disability appointments. The "independent" doctor the VA had me see was surprised when she checked my ears. Apparently there is some scarring on both sides from a couple incedents on my last deployment.
I've had what happened back on the 10th happen twice since.

As for the VA classes, I haven't gotten any info for a hearing class. I've done classes for back, and knees.

Yeah I feel the pain. Jet engines baby!

Worked for a little bit... was skeptical cause I still heard the ringing as I was doing it, but stopped cupping my ears and it was much less noticeable.

Yeeeeahp. Can't tell when the hell it beeps.
