Whats in your Bug Out Bag

So I didn't know where to post this, I felt like this section is the best for it.

So with all the firearms training my GF and I have been going through, we got the itch to build a bug out bag just to be prepared when the government decides to come and take our guns (I kid)

Its something we are going to put together over the next few months but so far this is our list and thought I would post here so people could add to the list and post up their bug out bag.

Our bags, we both use this bag but have one for the each of us.

Mine is similar. I also stuffed a lighter in random pouches in my bag, they're cheap and just another fail safe

I know alot do not carry a weapon in theirs, but I have a Henry AR-7 Survival 22 with around 500 rounds in mine

 

Subb'd for new suggestions / additions for my BOB, GHB. I use a cheaper bag that rides with me. I have a pac safe metal mesh security bag on the way to help secure my get home bag in the truck.

 

I have my Oakley Range Backpack that I have one of my firearms in that is stored ready to go as well in my home. This bag is going to be in my truck so didn't want to leave the firearm stored in the truck. The other will always be on my person once my CCW gets final approval in the next few weeks.

 

I plan on building more bags/boxes for different scenarios. My next is a disaster box in one of those 20/30 gallon action packers to store in the bed of my truck.

 

I keep a get home bag for the scenario where in we have a 12-36 hr gridlock situation which has actually happened (nor Easter during rush hour evening traffic). I was the last vehicle that made it out of town before 3 roads were shutdown. Small lightweight backpack, something I can actually jog/run with if needed.

Course I never leave home without blades and a fiskars hatchet. I have some other "items" for related purposes in the taco but figure I can sustain 1-2 nights bushwakin to my kids school and or home with the GHB if roads were impassable and cell phone grid was inaccessible.

I'm buggin In for almost everything except Yellowstone blowin wide open. Then I'm going hammer down to Everglades. But that kit won't fit in a bag.

 

In my mind there's 2 scenarios for a bug out bag: Less than 2 weeks and anything more than 2 weeks. Your pack seems geared for the less than 2 weeks like if your trying to evade and escape from your immediate area on foot to a safer area. With that in mind I would pack some detailed maps of your area with a primary, secondary, and tertiary routes. Plot points where you can get water, sheltered areas to sleep/hide.

Yes the 3 smaller packs are included.

 

Not a bad idea. In case of any type of emergency situation or anything. Might look into doing this.

I have three different set ups: short term without truck, short/long with truck, long without truck. Short term is a 3 day assault pack with essentials. Long term without truck is a Mystery Ranch Crewcab (fits the 3 day assault pack inside) with rifle, lightweight tent, woobie, etc. Short/long with truck includes the kitchen sink, basically everything that I have packed in plastic totes sitting in my garage ready to throw in the bed of the truck (cold weather gear, tools, all weapons, chest rigs and body armor.)
I keep the 3 day assault pack in my truck, mostly because it has my medical kit but also it doesn't take up much room. I've used it a couple times to stitch up my dog when she slices her paws open. Everything else is staged in my garage. I'm not a prepper or anything, just most of the gear I would take is also my hunting/camping gear so it's already packed and ready to go.

 

I would highly recommend ditching anything tactical looking. Not only is it unnecessarily heavy and kind of garbage, but it makes you really stand out in times of crisis. You know what's in my bug-out-bag? Whatever is in yours when you skyline yourself and can't hike with 50 lbs of unnecessary gear in a big, dumb pack. Just my two cents.

Acquiring survival skills is much more important than most gear, outside of personal warmth, shelter and water/food necessities, all of which require said skills.

Going camping a lot will do more for you than MRE's and "military grade" junk.

Bring the flaming. Just my personal thoughts.
