Interior mods?

Has anyone done any interior mods that have been useful or made the cab in a first gen a nicer place to be comfort wise?

 

You can change
the seats, do the interior led mod, swap out your door panel cloth, some have dyed/painted the vinyl throughout. Tons of ideas that have been done with 1st gens.

 

I swapped the seat bottoms from the driver to passenger side on my 99. Was really easy, the driver seat was getting beat up and foam wore down. The passenger seat was like new. IIRC it was just a few bolts. I bet you could do the backs too.

 

what seats you put in? just new oem?

 

One of the first interior mods I want to do besides the sound system, is sound deadening. My cab is so loud due to mud Terrains.

 

96-02 4runner, 95.5.-04 Tacoma seats are all interchangeable. There are some aftermarket options as well.

 

^^^ if you have a loud exhaust too then this is a must.

I did everything but the roof. Somehow makes the truck "feel" more solid aswell. Like if you do the doors you get a nice satisfying thud when shutting.

 

any recommendations on material or brand to use?

 

At first i used some ridiculously overpriced 3m stuff for my doors but later used the gtmat and noico stuff found on ebay for cheap. Both worked great.

 

I used self sticking duct insulation from Home Depot. It's $15-20 a roll and I used 3 or 4 rolls for the whole inside expect the roof.

 

Is there anything you feel is 'wrong' with your interior, or that you'd specifically like to change?

 

This here, I did this in an old first gen Geo metro XFI a few years ago when I had a long commute for work. Those cars had a lot of road noise, it was impossible to use the Bluetooth speaker with the noise. Made a difference. And this stuff was a lot cheaper than the dynomat or other name brands. The rolls weren't as wide though. Wasn't a deal breaker for me though.

 

LED interior lights are a huge help. All season mats protect your interior. Neoprene seat covers.

 

Locking glovebox is very handy. I added a iPod2car hookup for my iPhone.

 

I did: new gauge face (white, red letters), rsx bucket seats, ammo can center console, and paracord grab handles.

 

Leather wrapped steering wheel.

 

This. I put a wheelskinz on mine and I get a much better grip and better confidence while steering.

 

I changed my instrument panel, heater control panel and shifter quadrant to LED lighting, as well as the overhead map lights. The entire dash is now white instead of orange. I painted the black dash and console surround, as well as the power window switch plates with Rustoleum Dark Bronze, hammered finish, spray paint. Additionally, I added the stainless steel instrument cluster insert behind the clear plastic lens cover. Inexpensive, easy to complete and it looks nice.

 

I installed a 4runner dash, console w/e-brake and seats. I like the layout.
