so I see all the recommendation for high end Kings and lift kits and stuff...

I don't want to lift my 08 4x4 AC TRD OR, its high enough already for me. I do want some shocks that will reduce its bounciness on roads while still having decent offroad abilities for my tame and very occasional offroading. I also use this Tacoma for towing a 3500 lb (max) Casita trailer, and its particularlly bouncy while towing, although a WDH tames it significantly.

What are reasonable shock options for me over the stock TRD bilsteins ?

You could get some 5100's, and leave them set to "0" (stock height) However, my only experience with them, is @ either the .85, or 1.75 settings. Setting them to .85" (roughly 1" of height in the front) will tighten that front end up a bit.

I have the Fox 2.0 rr in the rear and they settled things down towing our travel trailer but I also installed dakars with the 3rd leaf removed at the same time so that may be contributing to the more planted ride when towing. I'm running Fox 2.5s up front.

Leer 100R cap. K&N air filter. Bilstein 6112. Bilstein 5160.
Bilstein 6112s up front set on zero lifted my front to level. Bilstein 5160s in rear add no lilft. My ride is ultra cush and comfortable without lift. I'd highly recommend this combo. Total cost was $1050. Pretty cheap compared to Fox, Icon, King...
