Again, I wasn't sure if you were trolling or serious.

Depending on how it's done, it can either be distracting or enhancing. If done right, the black will contrast with the paint and rims, drawing attention to them. The more stark the contrast, the more the truck will stand out from the rest of the other cars (won't be so "urban camouflaged"). The shine also gives it that "icing on the cake," new car look.

Lastly, tire shines usually have UV sunblock that help prevent your tires from fading and cracking.

I clean my tires really well, I like them black and clean. It's the shiny that I think looks rediculous

I clean mine really well also. With the foaming brush at the car wash.

It's supposed to give that wet, just-washed look. But I understand where you're coming from.

How long have you been using the Duragloss? Any chances of it cracking later in life?

There are other tire products that leave more of a matte finish vs the cheap Walmart blind you to death bling shine.

I've been using it a couple years. No, it won't ever crack. It's a really thin product when sprayed. Sorta looks like skim milk. You could apply it today and wash it off tomorrow with a light scrub with a brush. Your tire wouldn't be shiny afterwards. Maybe just a little blacker. It'll hold up for a month if the tires don't get wet. Less if they do get wet. I think I mentioned-- you can control the look by how much you apply. If you just mist a towel lightly and wipe it on, you probably wouldn't even know you have product applied. It'll just look clean. If you put it on thick, let it cure for a few hours, then apply another layer, it'll get shiny. It'll still probably be gone in a month under normal everyday conditions. But I like that aspect. Also, you can freshen it up whenever you want. Wash it off if you want. The best thing, though, is that it's not greasy and dust doesn't cling. The tires also are much easier to wash. I also spray a towel and wipe my door handles, the tail gate latch, mud flaps, weather seals. I like that it's not permanent, and yet it's really durable as far as "dressings" go. If you want really subdued appearance, just wipe it down with a towel immediately after applying.

    Here's my thread with pics...

Another nice product that allows you to control gloss level is the McKee's 37 Gloss Tire Gel (formerly DP Gloss Tire Gel) from Autogeek. In my experience, it performs very similarly to the Duragloss. It's equally versatile and can be applied to all rubber/trim. I bounce back and forth between the two. I like them both, although the McKee's may be a tad more durable. That could be due to the McKee's going on a little thicker initially due to its thicker consistency in the bottle. This also results in a little more shine. Again, if you don't want the shine and prefer a more natural look, use less or wipe it down with a towel after application. If I want more durability with the DG, I just add another coat, although I tend to go lightly, as shown in the photos I posted.

Sooooo.......I might change the name of this thread. Washed the truck today, and I couldn't really tell that there was a tire product on  So I might be trying the various recommendations from you guys next time.

My neighbor is moving out, so he gave me a giant box full of car care products. In it was a bottle of Lucas Slick Mist Tire and Trim Shine. I decided to try it just to use it up.

    lucas10513.jpg

It actually isn't that bad! It's not super shiny, but it keeps the tires looking like they are new, clean, and still wet. It's water-based, so it's not slimy or runny. Sprays on easy, wipe off the excess, and let it dry. 2 coats later, and it looks better than the sprays and gels I've used. No streaks whatsoever, and no residue at all after it dries.

Granted, it's only day 1, but I like this stuff so far. It's actually the exact look I was going for! Not overly shiny, just that nice clean, wet look.

@Sig45, @gainman, you guys might like this stuff.

I use simple green 1:1 to clean and srub it with a cheap bush from walmart and then dress it with Meguiar's Hyper Dressing mixed 2:1 using the chemical guys https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BCH51ZO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 brush. just spray it on the brush and a little on the tire and boom looks good. Doesn't last super long cus it is water based but it is the best shit i have used to far. Best part is you can water it down to a ratio you like to match your preference. I use 4:1 on my dash and inside the car. I use it on leather and other stuff too. I use the 2:1 on my plastic trim outside and use a 1:1 on my FRS tires.

I just spray mine with the same stuff I use on the interior. Very good results. Lasts about a week or two but that's plenty for me.

My wife likes the glossy tires but I just like mine to look like "new" so I use

Why settle for something that lasts a week or two. I am sure its cheap and easy to get but why settle???

Cause I've used that type of stuff that lasted for 6 months, dry to the touch but looks wet. It started chipping off after 6 months and looked awful.

I've had good luck with Poorboy's World Bold N Bright Tire Dressing. Definitely not for those who want the shiny look though. Seems to last pretty long under normal on-road driving conditions.

I can't find the Super VRT. On the Adam's site it says Super in the title but the bottle doesn't have super on it. Is VRT the same thing as Super VRT?
