Should I run away from a 3.4 with 224k?

I'm looking into maybe buying one but it's got 224k on the ODO. Thoughts??? Heckles??? Praise for this idea???

4x4, 5MT, with rear locking diff.

All about condition...is it a 3.4L? The mileage wouldn't be the deciding factor for me but the condition of the frame, engine (service records/proof) etc...... There's guys on here with over 500k on their Tacos
    And price obviously

***EDIT*** forgive my lack of reading your title of post, I see it's a 3.4

3.4 but it's in a 98 4Runner. I figured I'd post here 'cause it would get way more looks and hopefully a greater breadth of response.

    Rust free. Seller wants $4k.

What sort of stuff should I be looking for under the hood? Valve covers go on these 3.4's? I'm unsure on the timing interval and just about everything else in regards to these motors.

Why you want this vehicle? You plan to make a rock crawler out of it or daily driver?

Yeah look around the valve covers for "wetness", look underneath for the same, if there's wet oil residue it's usually valve cover or cam seals...take it for a test drive and drive it like you stole it to see if a CEL comes on...price seems good (depending on condition) but these engines last forever if taken care of

Timing belt and all that goes with it usually changed at 100k mile intervals

My 97 4Runner is about to touch 300k.

    Original motor and trans.

Runs great, passes smog with no issues and my g/f got back not too long ago from a trip across California and Arizona.

It's all about how it's been treated and maintained in the past.

Many uses. It'll stay stock but I won't be scared to use it just as I use my Taco.

Mainly It'll be a dog taxi, boat towing, panty dropping, wood hauling, head turning bad bitch!!!

Do you drive an auto or MT?

I know that when this generation, and especially the 1'st gen 4Runners, rip past me on the street tach'd out to 5k before grabbing the next gear it turns my head.

And for clarification I said "bad bitch"

    ...we'll get there.
Sounds OK with decent record of how it has been serviced. There isn't much that can break that you can't fix if the frame isn't about to crack in half and the bolts look like they'll come out with some coaxing.

I didn't mean it as insult, I was asking if you planning on lift or something to trick it out.

I had 6 manuals and 3 automatics. My favorite stickshift and head turning bad bitch was this turbocharged 240sx at 10psi. No muffler and a really loud blow off valve. When you redline then shift, it would backfire and shoot flames. It actually scares people. God I miss that car.

No worries mate!!! Can't get peeved off in internet land, esp. on TW.

My favorite MT whip was indeed a head turning 3000GT. Miss that car and its effect on the ladies.

I wouldn't. You could find much lower miles on a 3.4 anywhere.

Not to say that 224k is reaching its breaking point but I personally wouldn't buy with so many miles.
